    so im now lookin for a new hdd, i want aound a 60 gig cus im goin to get 2 and RAID them. the ibm hdd is a 75gig one that i bought from overclcockers just under a year ago. Im goin to stay away from IBM i think so if anyone has any ideas on a decent replacement let me no.

    IBM= made to fail....

    the 60GXP series is reccomended to be only used a maximum of 6 horus a day of which 1.2 hours are allowed to be with hdd activity...according to IBM whitepapers....thats why no one likes em no more...

    Another one....

    IBMs have serious problems. People know this now. The number of people I heard saying "It's only the 75GXPs, the 60GXPs are fine...." is now rather amusing, as the 60GXP has proved as bad.

    Seagates are pretty reliable drives, although any hard disk can fail, so keep backups!

    I have a freind who is getting a new drive and I told him whatever happens DON'T GET AN IBM DRIVE!!!

    Anyway his freind is a computer engineer. And when he told him what i said he is supposed to have laughed and called me a stupid pr*ck saying that of all the drives he has replaced most are none IBM ones.

    Now my freind is intent on buying an IBM drive as he takes the computer engineer's word over mine.

    I am just ranting here really as I can't beleive that a computer engineer doesn't know of the high failure rate of IBM drives so all I can do is sit back on watch the problems. :rolleyes:

    fujitsu never had a problem with any of the fujitsu drived i own or have owned & the drive is nippy enought for me when reading & writing & my machine is left running 24 hours a day (the only break it gets is a reboot, no power down) plus the drive is still scilent after 2 years heavy use

    we can all play frisbee with it...or take it to bits and put it back and see wether it works then...more likely to work better then a brand new ibm....:p

    I run dual Maxtors on my PC, an 80Gig and 40Gig, not the fastest thing, but good. My FTP which has run for over 30 days before I have needed to shut it down (moving it, the hdds in it, etc...) has shifted 3,490,102.59 MB, since October last year and achieved a total uptime of 158d02:37:53. Over 2TB was downloaded from the server the previous year. The HDDs are cool running and quiet.

    just shelled out the cash for an 80 gig maxtor. Model # 6L080L4. I swear its silent. I've had my ear to the one downstairs, which is the model down (just a hair louder) and i can't hear that one. haven't tested this one fully, but from what i've copied to it, i cant hear it at all. have a 20 gig maxtor too. never had a problem with them. i recommend them completely.

    WOOHOO, fixed it. dl'd a hdd utility of the ibm website which seems to have fixed it for now, shame i had to do a re-install.never mind was goin to do one anyway.

    spose the good thing is that i nolonger have to get a new hdd and i can save my money and perhaps get a new gpx card, the Gainward GEforce 4 powerpack ultra 750xp golden sample looks liek a good one, might just wait and see if the new matrox gpx'z are any good with there 512 gpus and dx 9 support.
