Hi, can someone design me a circuit that can do the following.

I want a series of HDD LEDs that act like a sound level meter but with disk activity....yes I know this has been donw in here, but....

...I also want to use Bi-Colour LEDs, so when the HDD is writing then say RED comes on, and when the HDD is reading say GREEN comes on.

Also, I would like the LED pattern to not just go from one side to the other but instead to start on both the outside and to work inwards to a central LED.

Oh and does anyone know what pin/wire numbers in the IDE cable are for the Read and Write activity???

Cheers for any help you can offer

    Rusty

This info might be a bit off, but anyway...

    1. Pin 39 is used to carry the activity signal, but...
    2. There's no distinction between reading and writing, just activity.
    3. If you want a spiral pattern, all you have to do is just mount the LEDs in such a manner so that the central LED is the last in sequence than work outward.

sweet, shame about no different signal for read and write activity

I was suggested to use two signals on the IDE cable that were used for READ and WRITE ready, but no one did it because they were afraid to hack data signals.

But using a alternating circuit still looks cool.

Lots of info on my site:
