    Hi guys.

I'm going to upgrade my rig in December, So Tell me what do you think on what I'm getting. BTW the Hardware is coming from UK because I can't find here in Dubai.

Note : The price is important. I don't want to spent a lot. I need some thing responsible for media and gaming and normal work and will last 1 - 2 years. I will game on 22" screen and I got 1K PSU and the rest of hardware, so this is the only things I'm going to upgrade.

    Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P

    CPU : Q9450

    Ram : Corsair TwinX XMS2 8GB (4x2GB) ( ( TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G ) X2 )

    GFX : XFX GTX 260 Black Edition ( GX-260N-ADBF )

    Sound Card : Asus Xonar D2X Ultra Fidelity ( XONAR D2/XDT )

So what do you think ?

If price is important, don't bother with the VelociRaptor, save the money and get something with the same amount of space, or spend the same amount for more space.
Do you really need 8GB of RAM? I know you're trying to "future proof" but not much uses more than 4GB these days, especially for your uses.

okay I will forget about the VelociRaptor and put the money on the CPU maybe.

but about the ram, I got 4GB now and it's good yeah but more ram will not be bad, you got what i mean ? and ram is cheap I mean dirt cheap now days. or what do you think?

i went ahead and bought 8gb of ram a few weeks ago. some advantages and disadvantages. 1. mobo didnt really like having 8gb in 4 sticks but i solved by overclocking  anyway boot times are wee bit slower but games and programs open faster so its a good trade off.
    2. for the price you can get ram nowdays i would go ahead and get 8gb but thats just me.

mainly just check out other people who have that board on google and see if anyone has trouble with 4 sticks of ram or 8gb.

that board support up to 16GB :) means 4X4GB, so I don't think that it will not like 2GB stick :)

But I will google that and see. thanks for the advise :cooldude:

Some boards can only run 4 sticks of RAM at max 800MHz. Like my P5Q Pro. It limits my overclock to 3.4GHz. :(

(400MHz FSB, 800MHz RAM (mobo doesn't support any lower RAM multipliers), 400x8.5=3400 for the CPU)

It says it supports 16GB, as did my last board, but just like my last board, it didn't like having each slot filled up with a stick of RAM. Some motherboards are weird like that and will lock up on you with each RAM slot filled.

what's this Black Edition gtx260?? does it have 216sp?? make sure it does!

how about the VelociRaptor 150GB, half the price, same performance. you don't need that big OS drive anyway.

i got that 8GB RAM, fantastic, and overclocks pass 900Mhz at 1.9v without problem. if your system is not very stable, up MCH a little bit should help greatly.

for CPU, do try to get q9450, any others won't seem like a upgrade from your E6600.

If price is important, ask yourself first: "Do I absolutely need an upgrade, or just want one for my e-peen?"

I guess you can answer it yourself...

Instead of a Velociraptor, go for the both faster and relatively cheaper solution:
get two 7200 rpms (diamondmax or spinpoint i.e.) and put them in raid, or get even more of them for raid5. If not quicker it's just as quick and you have more space for the same amount of money. (atleast... those are my findings)

Yup I need to upgrade :) Gaming sucks on my PC. It's SLOW!! Also on DVD ripping and many other things I used to do.

I think I will do that. You are right buddy. Will drop that raptor :) thanks for the idea.

Yup it's 216 and over clocked from factory ( I got my hands on good deal )

I will get Q9450 used or new.

I have a gigabyte p45 ds5 and 8 GB Skill Ram, no trouble running at 430 FSB with a 9550, ram divider at 1:1 and 4-4-4 timings...
It should be fine with the ud3p as well.

Good to hear that :) Thanks for the information buddy :thumb:

    I think I will not go over 400FSB :)

    Q9450 ( 400 X 8 = 3200 Ghz ) more than what I need I think

The upgrades you've suggested won't increase your gaming and if it does, you won't notice it...

What!? A GTX 260 is massively faster than a 1950XTX. You might want to consider the Xonar DX instead of the D2X as the sound quality is almost identical. It lacks the frilly bits, like the EMI shield and the lit up outputs, but for gaming purposes you won't know the difference. Oh, and it's half the price:clap:

Really ? it's the same quality on music and gaming with every little bass..... etc. ?

About VGA it is a must :) but maybe I will forget about mobo and cpu ? or what do you think ?

I don't actually own either =D. The DX is on the list. However, to quote Bit-Tech:
If you're an utter audiophile you might tell the difference. Regarding the CPU and mobo, the quad cores will certainly give you more futureproofing. The Q9450 is decent overclocker afaik, so the mobo is a plus. If this is solely for games though, you might be better off with an e8400 or e8500 and clock it beyond 4GHz.

I have an e6600 and it's very good on gaming so getting another core 2 duo ( e8400 ... ) will not make a different :) but with the quad it will.

I will read more about the DX and DX2 and compare between them .

Not to games it wont, unless it is (considerably) faster clock for clock.

I say stick with your CPU, change your GPU, possibly change your motherboard.
Get a soundcard if you want one, but really there isn't much to upgrade apart from the graphics card.
