Memory cl8 or cl9

    hi all, can you help,which is better or faster xms3 4gb 1600mhz cl8 or xms3 4gb 1600mhz cl9 memory? thanks

    cl8 technically but you will see no real world performance difference pretty much no matter what the timings these days.

    maybe in some RAM intensive benchmark but thats about it.

    You'll never know the difference. Buy whichever is cheaper.

    Lower timings are always better. CL8 is better than CL9. But the difference in performance is marginal. Pick the cheapest one. But if CL8 is like a few dollars more, than just go with that one.

    went to buy cl9 on ebay for £15 including postage but was sent cl8. thing is plenty of cl9 memory out there but not much cl8 for future upgrade?

    cl9 is cheaper to produce, so the price is lower. OEM buys the average stuff... so that is what's popular, so that is why they are more and easier to find.

    I've got cl7, even seen cl6 but not sure exactly how much of a difference it makes. Some say it makes it more responsive, could just be the placebo effect.

    Maybe some memory needs to have some of the other latencies (there are at least 18 more memory latency settings on my MB) tightened before there is a difference.

    I don't think the articles that I've seen have really gone in depth enough draw much of a conclusion as the testing methods are the same as back in the day when we only had 3 settings to play with.
