Because that would mean that AMD has a CPU with a cool name. We can't break tradition now can we Don't flame me. I bite. I also like AMD myself.
But that name has been around for a while. I think it was announced around the time the opteron name was announced. Sheesh, opteron ... they shoulda just called it sledgehammer
Why don't intel drop Pentium? Why don't NVidia drop GeForce? Why don't Seagate drop Barracuda? Why don't Creative drop Sound Blaster? Maybe because people now recognise the Athlon branding?
I have never heard either, but then again we still call the Athlon XP's - Throughbred's. But I do receive all the official AMD news and public releases in my e-mail, and still haven't seen those names before.
Maybe they're trying to tell you something Thunderbird is good, Thoroughbred is good, and Sledgehammer and Clawhammer are good, but unfortunately, the only one to make it into the public was the Thunderbird..... And even then the Thunderbird is the Athlon 4..... ARGH. It gets confusing cuz you get like seven different names for the same bloody chip, or there is the slightest difference, like with the Intel P4s a and b... being 400MHz and 533MHz....
DOH! DOH! DOH! Now I feel stupid! Guess what I just got in my e-mail box... Well I was right I have never heard those names, up until now. Quote from the e-mail:
maybe AMD use a different calender system and its the year 200 not 2003 or 2002 as some people would tell you
No you see, most people say availble early '03 as a short form cuz everyone knows we're in the 2000 years... So therefore we can't expect them until 2200
that would explain the release dates. Personally i love AMD, but this paper release thing is bugging me and I might switch over to intel. Prometeia + 3.06 + Hyperthreading sounds real good. Probably take it very very close to 4 GHz if not over.
So it'll coincide with the release of the new NV30 eh? So if you've got about $10,000 to blow, you could grab a Hammer, mobo, RAM and NV30 and have one tricking rig
Play a 64bit version of Unreal 2003 three on a NV30 and a Clawhammer I will not use the name Athlon 64, sounds old, like Nintendo 64. This chip rocks and Clawhammer is a sweet name. Just got another e-mail:
Rock the boat Zap! Your such a rebel Although I doubt I'll be calling it an Athlon 64 either, at least not without having a gun pointed at my head.
