What do you folks think of them? Which are the best? Have you had or heard of any problems with them? I'm concerned about the possibility of RFI/EMI interference....TIA!
Interference is going to happen since there is no shielding but for the most part any data cables are already lightly shielded. I wouldnt worry about interferencec much and also note that the powersupply is plenty of ground in case you were worried
you will get some static if people touch it too mouch. best solution for this is Novus #1 right, Linear?
made my own clear case and love it!! I have not had one problem. the only thing is that is shows dust pretty easy...
American Freak, welcome to the boards. Now where's some pics! I wouldn't worry about interference a lot. After all, people operate with open cases a lot (I sure do) and there's rarely any issues. Novus #1 is your friend, that's right Morphine. For a commercial clear case, I say you can't beat the C3, check my review here for more details.
Thanks everyone for the info, I'm getting less and less concerned about it. Heck, I run mine without the sides half the time anyway... linear, nice review, that case looks pretty good!
I realize this is my first post, so I'll try not to say anything stupid that will get me my inevitable flaming. I just bought a purely acrylic case from clearpc.ca, and as cool as it looks, it's a bit of a pain to work on. I've decided that my primary system (4 PCI cards and 4 hard drives among other crap) just isn't pretty enough to show off. I would save the acrylic cases for show/LAN party systems, where you can go minimalist. That's what I've decided to do with mine.
Welcome to the boards, NetGuy. I haven't worked with a clearPC myself, but from the pics I've seen, I would have guessed exactly what you just said.
here's a quick pic...... it is best to keep the mods down with a clear case. just try and keep it clean with wire loom and stuff. next will be water cooling I think it would be pretty kewl with some UV dye and blacklight in a clear case.
Personally I don't like the plexi cases... Aluminum RULEZ! Well anyway if you want one get this: http://noiseblocker.shops.at12.de/servlet/de.at12.shop.servlet.ShowProduct;jsessionid=aaahaJhptHCopy?id=70404&cs=true# However, I've never seen it available outside Germany
If you can't decide between plexi or aluminum, get this: http://www.coolermaster.com/case/p210.htm (at least thats what I did )
a plexy case an EMI shouldnt be a problem, ure monitor easily gives off more. If you are like me and have 3 monitors, you will never have cancer b/c of all the radiation u receive
We're talking about EMI affecting/damaging the computer components, not the EMI created by the computer...
if you can run 5 dozen fibre channel drives in a 20U rack without any interference... i don't think you'll have issues because of a plexi/acrylic case (think about the huge server/processor farms.... they're always right next to eachother and don't get any problems)
Thanks, glad to be around other modders. The link below is from a website that thinks EMI etc IS a big deal and quotes: "no protection from EMI - this IS a factor...the more EMI you have the more random lockups and crashes you get" Has anybody with a clear case experinced any troubles like this? http://www.virtual-hideout.net/reviews/loverme_clearcase/index.shtml Cheers
My dad questioned me about this, but ive never heard anything but good things about clear cases. I think if there was a problem, it would be more widely known.
I've got my server running in a clear case ATM. Doesn't seem to be much of a problem, and its running 24/7 ATM (7vModJoy™) Its not crashed, otherwise I would know. However I wouldn't recommend that you stick an EMP generator right next to the case (nor anything else electrical really)
As you can see here I'm running two PC' in the same plexy case since six months and I have no problems at all: both run with no fault, and the P!!! 700 is overclocked to 868 MHz Now I'm planning another clear case for an AMD Athlon XP..... Sincerely, I LOVE plexy!!!! GeeK!
