Hello,i'm very new to all this pc building/overclocking etc. I've built this pc mainly from second hand parts & a few things i had.

    Athlon 64 x2 5000+ brisbane 2.6
    asus m4n82 deluxe
    4gb ddr2
    hd 4870
    crossair tx650 psu
    Zalman 10x extreme
Could or even should i overclock my psu & how with out damaging it. I no its very old but could be a long while before i get new cpu/gpu.

Overclocking your PSU? Thats pretty hardcore!

Seriously though, your PSU will handle that system OC'd easily. Search for guides to overclocking AM2 boards for details of how to do it. The parts are good good, the CPU will probably hold it back though in intensive situations. But then that board is capable of some pretty decent upgrades to the CPU should you later decide to splurge.

psu overclocking is good, but tbh overclocking your hard drive would see more benefits

Don't forget to overclock the printer! Unless you have one of those 'gamer' class printers with 20 macro buttons, you can still make it better!

Nah, it's the peripherals like the monitor/keyboard/mouse that you interact with most, so start your overclocking there. You should be looking to get at least 1Ghz on your mouse, and roughly the same for your keyboard, then work your way up. If they're not stable, bump the voltages up or place them on a good desk ;)

my wireless N network adapter came pre overclocked at 2.4ghz! Usually you have to pay more for pre oced hardware

It also has passive cooling but im thinking about upgrading to ln2 to see what it can really do

No harm done, forgot to mention i'm a muppet.
I do plan on upgrading the Cpu repeat Cpu & i'm looking at phenom 960t or 965t after researching the board. All i've done so far is rase the fbs from 200 to 220 but i'm afraid to go higher as i don't know what any of it has on memory or anything else.
