Recently I broke my monitor, I replaced it with a flat screen TV in my house, but now I cant watch media on my monitor,it will play sound but not the picture.

I can stream things like off youtube and dailymotion but not wmv and similar file types. For example I play a wmv it will play the sound and have a black screen, but if I minimize the player and reopen I can see the picture for several secounds then disapears again.

I know its not my codecs as there the same as they were before my monitor broke and videos worked fine. I know my pc is in cloned mode because when I try certain applications they wont work because clone mode is active, could this be the reason why my monitor wont show the video?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated,It's so frustrating.

    possibly.

what videocard are you using? The different companies have different ways of handling TV output and it would really help to know so I can try to figure out the error.

are you using the DVI or VGA output? or are you using the component adapter?

if you're using the component adapter there are some instances where it will go to clone automatically unless you set the TV out as primary in the control panel.

weirdly, this can only be done with a second regular monitor attached.

VGA,weirdly enough today I got hold of an old monitor and when I went to watch media it worked, then when I plugged my flat screen tv back in the video worked, then when I re-opened the player later to watch a video and it was black again.

Try setting the display that you want to view video on as the primary display. I seem to remember having to do this sometimes with my 2 monitors. I also get that problem with some files when i drag a playing video from one monitor to the other.
