It has been a while (years) since I have cloned any sort of HDD and I have just bought a Crucial M500 and want to install it in my Silverstone build move the M4 to the Prodigy build and move the Kingston to partners PC. Partners PC will be a fresh install as the whole PC is being rebuilt. Prodigy will be a fresh install as there is not much on it yet. But I want to clone the Silverstone current M4 to the new M5. The question is what is the simplest free bit of software to use? And is it pretty much the same sort of procedure that it is/was with the ordinary HDD's?
Windows System Image is the easiest way as it's built into windows already. It aligns the partition correctly for the SSD also which other cloning tools don't do correctly. Here's a basic tutorial of how it works: http://oakdome.com/k5/tutorials/windows-7-disk-imaging/windows-7-system-imaging.php
Clonezilla live disk is good too and you can do a straight clone from one to another without the intermediate step of making an image
It looks far to much work anyway. So I will try the windows method and if that's goes wrong then a reinstall. Not really a biggie. Just thought I would try to clone for a change.
