How much of the case has to remain intact ?, i was having a think about it , and here you are being given the privilege of modding this case, and Bill we've known you to do some crazy modding, but they were ur own case, this being a sponsored one, are there Do's and Dont's to how it gets modded?, are you limited in any way , or did Coolermaster, just say "Here take this and do your thing".

The project literally landed in my lap last week. I have yet to be approached by corporation months in advance before a big event :hehe:

This case will be on display at CM STORM's booth at Computex. They wanted a system installed, so I recruited Nate aka "CustomPCMax" to handle that stage. Like me, Nate owns a small online business, and hes local, so I want to see him gain a reputation in the community.

Like any other customer job, you listen to what the customer wants first. Sometimes they will give you artistic license with the entire build, or certain aspects. The manufacturer in this case, Cooler master suggest some ideas. I told them whether or not theyre feasible given the time constraints. Their main criteria is they wanted the case to be distinguishable as the Scout.

Restomod - keep the body recognizable but change everything to be a bit new or better. Works for cars.

    Eggactly John!

First order was removing the top perforated fan grill to help improve the exhaust airflow.

I'm using this 120mm wire fan grill to find the center of the perforated grill

    Greenlee Knock out Punches

Greenlee part # 730EBB-120 Last time I inquired, they were around $450 (us dollars) in the states + Large 3/4" socket wrench, and 2" socket. I wouldn't use anything less than 19" long socket wrench. Estimated purchase price of $550 new. These are primarly used by Electricians and sometimes Plumbers.

Back to removing the Scout's top perforated fan grill.

In order to fit teh Greenlee's knock shaft into the grill, I cut a 1.5" opening in the center of the perforated grill with a heavy duty wire cutter

You first insert the threaded shaft
    [IMG]

I'm using a 19" long 3/4" socket wrench to turn the blade
    [IMG]

Within a matter of minutes, a clean 120mm size hole is cut.

    I will have to buy a 140mm size knock-out blade soon ;)

This picture shows that CM has made a bunch of holes for cable access but the distance from the side door to the MN tray looks cramped for cable mgmt.

    Might be camera angle.

It is cramped John. What saves it is the raised center portion of the side panel, but I'm swapping the left window panel to the right side, applying their logo to the window (laser cut letters) and mount a piece of modders mesh to the back side of the panel. There wont be much space for those cables after doing this :blah:

btw: Just out of curiousity for anyone, Heres what the front bezel looks like after removing the perforated grill.

    Thanks Fear!

This is the front intake plate, it's 1/8" thick acrylic. The CM Storm logo have been laser cut. I've painted it with flexible primer for plastic, this will be painted later to match the case

    Yes, John :thumb:

CM should be sending me another Window side panel, so i can have windows on both sides. On the right side, I'll be applying laser cut out of their new CM STORM logo, from 1/8" thick red translucent and black opaque acrylic

Outlining the Scout's new window for the right side onto 1/8" thick clear acrylic sheet
    [IMG]

The window was cut using a band saw
    [IMG]

The window was originally fastened on with plastic tabs, but I will use 8/32 socket head screws instead

Yesterday afternoon I used a measuring square and the laser cut out background to calculate the ideal location for cmstorm logo

I'd like to get this stage done today, right now I'm using measuring square to align the laser cut letters

I'm using Weld On #16 to attach the letters to the window, it's the best solution of joining acrylic together

Heres one for Paul (aka Coolmeister) Nothing like a cold Nuke before lunch! :D

Heres samples of the color and contrast of the digital camo pattern that will be airbrushed over the entire shell of the Scout
