Teyber, thoughts on an X1? even smaller? i know that it's been said that if you can, get bigger and not limit yourself in size of the mill...
no i think its more trouble then its worth. its tiny, very un-rigid, et cetera. have to tram the mill for each part, et cetera. Id buy a x2 from hf for $399 right now with the 20% off coupon, i think you would always be glad you did. wait you mean cnc right?
ha ha ha... i'm thinking... real hard... i love the prices at HF... grizzly seems to be so overpriced... i think i know what i want to buy... 1) 30" Shear, Press Brake, and Slip Roll $399.99 @ HF, $499.99 @ Grizzly/Amazon i know, i know, it's an all-in-one and i've always stayed away from machines that does 3 mediocre jobs... but again, it's a box/pan brake, slip roll and shear... for starter... i'm thinking i'd get most use out of this... 2) Finelineautomation cnc router thingamajiggy... cost is up the roof, still i think about $2000-2500 at end of day to get it all up and running, with some basic tools, right? but i'd like to get 3'x3' bed... 3) HF: Sieg X2 44991 it's not cnc but i think i'd like to try to do some conversions myself... i guess that's one way to get better knowledge of the machine... that is the X2, right? but honestly, the X2 is a bit of a reach for me... damned thing is that i have a WAD of amazon gift certificates... a TON... and i can actually buy the mill and the combo machine... but i'd be paying $100 over the harbor freight cost when i buy from amazon... and if i buy from HF, i can pick up from their NJ location and save on freight... well, gotta buy a camcorder for the wifey to get her happy and then i'll see how much i have left...
wait a minute... i've just seen this over at their site... KX1-MACH Hobby CNC Mill is this based on a Sieg KX1 or KX2 model? and wow! $2999.99 um... that's steep... lol
x1. small envolope- id go with the deepgroove over it. Just because you have a lathe/cnc doesn't mean it has to be cnc. if you have a cnc router and a manual mill you will problably find you arn't dying to get the x2 cnc.... a manual machine can do tons...
well folks... 13 months after i decided i was going to do the cnc project, 7 months after i first tore down the mill to start the cnc project... 7 months of pure frustration, failure, regret, and a huge dump of self esteem... all made worthwhile tonight It doesn't seem like a big deal but i cut my first part on the mill tonight which was actually created by me on dolphin cad/cam. Its such a big deal for me because so many times i told myself i wasn't talented enough for this project, i wouldn't succeed, et cetera and it turns out that isn't true This project is vastly more complex then most people realize and much more then i realized... The part doesn't look like much but its a "miniature muff", because i had 2.25" od ldpe when the muffs will be 2.75" and just wanted to get started, however it was very cool to watch the mill go around. I had it sprinting at 35 ipm so the finish is pretty bad. The camera died but i can run it again and take a video of the machine in action if anybody wants Looks like im coming back in the game
Good to hear from you after all this time! This is wonderfull news. Good work! Do you even have to ask if anybody wants to see? We'll hungrily watch everything you want to show us!
thanks man! and sure thing, here's some moar YouTube - second cnc part final part It was midnight so i didn't feel like deburring the part, thats why it looks a little messy
Yay!! I was wondering why you never did any parts. I didn't know you had trouble. ...Dolphin CAM... Is their trial download crippled, or does it have a time out period?
yeah around april the electronics started acting really weird and every fix i did made it worse... finally had a epiphany(like a real solid one) of what i had done wrong when i was out of town like 2 weeks ago. fixed it and now its running great Dolphin's trial is not time limited. It has the full function ability of the registered version only you can't post .dxf (only .dra, which is the dolphin format) and in the cam it only posts the first 10 or something like that lines of code. So you can learn the software and actually make parts (well similate it) before spending a dime to see if you like it. Partmaster pro is around 1k which is what i have and the standard version is around $500 i think, however i think they have a sale right now that partmaster pro costs the same as standard currently. You can also ask for more discounts if your a hobbiest, et cetera. I got a INSANE deal on it because im a student, and asked if i liked the program that i would pass it along. Gotta say, i really really like the software especially after all the horror stories ive heard from other software (bobspam)
A 30 day limit would be better. I would at least have time to find out if it will do what I want it to.
long time bump so i am did a little bit of work on my website www.teyberdesign.com here is what i am making these days - oh that chamfered edge I have a powdercoating setup coming in the mail i cannot wait... a powdercoating gun, paint, and a small oven was less then $150 as well. i am really excited.
Think of it like a insulation/mounting system for a waterblock that gets really cold so it sits on a mobo and has to look nice these could easily be adapted to hold down a waterblock, not that it would help really for a watercooling system
Thanks for the update. It's amazing to see how far you've come in a few years. So when are you going to start anodizing alum? =)
