http://news.com.com/James+Kim+found+deceased/2100-1028_3-6141498.html?tag=cnetfd.ld1 Was the face of CNET to me and many people, and will be a great shame to visit the site without the prospect of reading his reviews anymore . I'm sure everyones thoughts are with his family and friends now. <A88>
Ive been checking this out for the past few days when it was first posted on CNET and Engadget and it certainly is a terrible tragedy to the family and of course, the devoted readers of Kim's reviews and the viewers of his CRAVE video podcast. Though the news coverage has been very in-depth and the support from the community is also wonderful, I have been trying to find out what exactly happened from the day the Kim family set of for Oregon until his family was found (alive, thankfully). My only guess is that they were caught in a snow drift and their car died. But the only information I have gotten on the cause of the tragedy has been from user comments on CNET and The Register. Some of them have hinted at the fact that the area the Kim's where found was caught in a large snow storm. Of course this is just conjecture, I'll have to keep an eye on the aftermath of this terrible event.
I used to watch him on The Screen Savers all the time. 'Tis truly sad that a fellow geek has fallen. He will be missed
I feel very sorry for the family, its reads almost like the script out of a movie that you just don't expect to happen in real life. Hopefully people will learn from this tragedy and remain with their cars in the future.
I find it touching to know that he died trying to find help for his family. Shows great courage and honour. He'll not only be missed, but he'll be remembered as a man who risked it all in a devoted and truely selfless act. R.I.P
Wow, I was really sad when I read this today. I've been sick since Saturday and have been following the story pretty closely. James Kim did everything to help his family to survive. He siphoned the gas tank an used the gas to create fires for warmth. When the gas ran out, he took off the cars tires and burned those. He left to go find help for his family so they could survive. It is because of him that his wife and 2 kids have survived. I just wish he had too.
Amen, brother. It almost SICKENS me to read some of the comments elsewhere calling him an idiot for leaving his car and family, but he was there for more than a week before he set out seeking help for his family. A truely brave man imo, it's a shame his daughters will now never really know their father.
And my old econ teacher said theres no such thing as a selfless act. Its too bad it happened like it did.
I've been through that area and it is about as wild as you can get. Similar thing happened last year but in that case the whole family was rescued after about a week.
