From the BBC: It is a daily routine for millions of Italians - the morning cup of espresso brewed on the kitchen hob or downed swiftly in a cafe on the way to work. But for years their favourite way of kick-starting the day has had a bad press - most recently when it was reported that doctors had told British Prime Minister Tony Blair to drink less coffee. Now it seems the tide is turning. Forget the scare stories, says dietician Chiara Trombetti, of the Humanitas Gavazzeni institute in the northern Italian town of Bergamo. There is sound scientific reason to enjoy your morning espresso without worrying about the health effects. Coffee can be good for you - she says - and the stronger, the better. That is why she recommends an espresso rather than a very un-Italian cup of instant. Rest of article is here... Okay, I don't know what the kitchen hob is as stated in the 1st paragraph, but that's okay, I'll read it anyway. I can't say that I agree that coffee is good for you, I mean, okay, maybe not as bad as once thought, but a health drink?
All things in moderation. The problem is most "coffee drinkers" do not practice moderation. I drink it as strong as I can get it and as often as I can get it. My blood pressure is always a little high when I go to the doctor. But like the article says...it helps with headaches and all the rest. Another problem is, most of us (american coffee drinkers) add things to our coffee. Milk, sugar, creamer, Baileys, brandy. Those things may not be good for you. But I persoanlly prefer my coffee black, strong, and bitter.
A hob is one of the 'gas rings' on a cooker, it's what you would put a pan on over this side of the pond.
Not quite...a hob is technically a flat area at the side of a stove or oven range or similar...Kind of like a hot plate... *n
