The exotic: Turkish coffee with cardamom. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or baklava. The aptly named: "café corretto", or espresso with a shot of grappa in it.
An aeropress forces hot water through the coffee, much like an espresso machine. A cafetierre lets the coffee steep in hot water, and then pushes the filter down to separate the grounds from the brewed coffee. The latter is slower but ensures maximum flavour extraction, although there is a risk of overbrewing (or underbrewing if you force the plunger down. It should go down easily). The former tries to imitate an espresso machine, but requires a lot of pressure for it to work well.
So which one would you recommend then coffee sages? What are the thoughts on bean-to-cup machines like this one? The Girl has inherited one of these from her parents, and although it needs a good clean and de-scale, it still works fine.
IMO all of those machines are gimmicky shite designed only to take up space in your kitchen unless you go super high end. You can do much better with a simple cafeteria, aeropress or something like a kalita wave or chemex.
I may have to put up with it, the Girl is thoroughly besotten with the lazy method of course. All it takes is 1 button-press, I'll have to buy an Aeropress and see if I can convert her.
I used to drink coffee when I was 15 but after pouring a kettle of boiling water down my front I never touched it again. (never received a single burn which is odd). I love the smell of freshly brewed real coffee but can't drink it.
One of these just arrived at our office. I'm rather pleased... Just gave away my Bialetti though, as it was just too small and too much hassle. Thinking if I should buy something to replace it.
This bit of kit does the trick quite nicely for me: Going to upgrade the steam wand at some point and after the warranty runs out, I may look at adding a PID to it. Pressure has already been reduced from 15bar down to 9bar
In all honesty, they are not bad as such (although prone to breakdown)-- they just don't make a compelling cup of coffee. I have a Nespresso machine basically because I have no space (or money) for a proper Elektra Micro Casa: ...although one day I plan to just get one. Meanwhile, the Nespresso fulfills a basic need. We also have two small stove-top machines, but they are really hard to get a good shot out of.
This +1. Do yourself a favour and get one of their sample packs - that way you can try out a few different varieties of bean so you can find one or two you like. And definitely get a grinder ASAP - but make sure it's a burr grinder, not a blade grinder. You'll thank yourself in the long run
I buy mine from hasbean.co.UK All you need as a burr grinder and a French press Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
Query - Could we do one about tea? Some of us don't drink the black satan (Nearly wrote satin...) and prefer the taste of the glorious liquids.
