My aeropress came through this morning. It made a beautifully smooth coffee.. Didn't even think it could get that smooth. I just need to buy some decent coffee now, the stuff my mum gave me is vile. Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 4
See above for selection bags, variety is the spice of life! So, if I want to revive my love of coffee, an aeropress or cafetiere is a good start. What about a grinder? Anyone recommend a burr for £20ish?
I've got a proper ancient one of these. It's from the 80s and its awesome. Please tell me more about this PID and pressure amendment you speak of...
Its a push for 20ISH but I have this one. I really like it. The shop that I've linked to is a company that has 3/4 really good coffee shops in London.
Thanks, they're actually £24 on Amazon, so quite reasonable. In the £30 bracket there's also this DeLonghi electric which looks rather lovely. Easy adjustment of grind size too. Hmmm! I'll see how my RM shares do.
The guys at Coffeesmiths basically said DON'T get an electric one unless you're going very high spec.
When did you come back to the world of BT?!? I thought you had turned into a memory. Welcome back buddy http://www.amazon.co.uk/Krups-Exper...381240368&sr=8-1&keywords=krupps+burr+grinder I have that guy, 40 quid, gets used about 3 or 4 times a day, has done for 18 months, not skipped a beat yet!
Cheers chap I re-appeared a few days a go. No longer the nuisance I once was, more over here for a giggle at the old folks That and enjoying your chatting about coffee machines!
Pressure mod http://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthread.php?3859-Adjusting-the-OPV-(over-Pressure-Valve)-Gaggia-Classic Basically needed on the newer machines as they are set to ship at ~15bar of pressure, mainly for use with 'pod' coffee. Reducing to 9bar means a slower shot, but a much greater quality one, when using grounds. Note that inside the machine, there is very little room to maneuver - you will burn your hand. Repeatedly if you're as clumsy as me... PID As for the PID, I've not done a huge amount of research yet - basically equipping a PID will allow the temperature to be more consistent (the stock thermostat can vary a fair bit). This in turn aids the recovery time between shots. Apparently most of the PID kits for the machine will come with fitting instructions. One of my friends has the same machine with every mod under the sun. Bloody awesome would be an apt way to describe the coffee that comes out of it.
We had one years ago! This is so true This and this, although I use an Aeropress as well as the grinder. How can you guys miss these things?!
I found some decent coffee! While I was in town with the Mrs, she remembered there was this County Stores type thing, it's like a corner shop, only more old fashioned. Anyway, they have 7 or so different beans, so I went for some Java bean, 250g, pulverised (don't have my own grinder yet). Dear mother of science, it's the best coffee I've ever had.
Finally got a photo of oils that the paper filters will allow through, just to dispel this (imo) myth! This one's a particularly oily & rather lovely Costa Rican "Finca de Licho Yellow Honey Vila Sarch" from hasbean
Epic thread revival, but seeing as we all seem to be pretty excited about coffee at the moment. https://eightpointnine.com/ Anyone tried out this service? Looks like an interesting idea.
I do need to get one of aero press devices, problem being though we are in an office and no sink unless you count the one in the toilet Is it feasible to pre make such magical black liquds at home and transport it with me to work to enjoy through the day or would I end up with something akin to tar by the end of the day?
My aero press was for coffee at work... Was great and, although we DID have a kitchen, after pouring in the hot water and letting it filter, I would empty the coffee into a bin and wipe the rubber with a paper towel. I washed it in the dishwasher every evening when returning home...
Interesting, though I feel like blending is best left to the experienced and this is a bit of a novelty gift and not a lot more. The odd few "bottom of the bag" blends I've made have been pretty ho-hum, anyway. Lack of a sink isn't necessarily an issue, but lack of a kettle could be. If you have a means of boiling the water on demand, then just wiping out the aeropress as suggested and then properly cleaning it at home would be fine. Coffee prepared in the morning and then kept throughout the day won't be the best. And speaking of coffee, an unnecessarily decadent little gift from Mrs_Tad arrived in the post just now... Why, it's a Torr Goldfinger, 58.4mm, flat base, 3mm black washer walnut handled tamper of course! The mat and the coffee were thrown in too, so bonus. I can't recommend this place enough
