Just bought a cold cathode from maplins. looks exactly the same as the sunbeam model.

But has no invertor and i have been told i need 1.

    is this true?

or can i simply plug the cathode in?

it has white pin connector i think

The ones from maplin without inverters are just replacement tubes... they sell the inverters too i think though. You need the inverter because the computer PSU is DC, and the cathode needs AC to work.

Or about £7 for two tubes and an inverter (that includes a rough estimate on shipping (~£4 I think).

most cathodes like your one, need a inverter, but the inverters can handle 2 cathodes, thats why they sell a inverter with a cathode and then the cathodes with out the inverters
