really small 2 part question of a bigger thing here.

    1) can the plastic end caps on cathode lights be easily removed?

the reason i ask is that i want to install them flush with a surface on the inside of a case and cut out the case so the liquid light tube is visible on the out side of the case.

    2) is there any way to get them longer then 12" upwards to 20" is what im really looking for although i could as easily supplement the 12"

    example of the light

Cold cathodes are actually really dim when compared with LED strips.
The NZXT Hue is very bright and has a three meter strip standard, and you can link an additional three meters to the end of it.

If you mean the square ends like in this pic...

I recall twisting them back and forwards till the glue breaks enables you to remove them. it also enables you to remove the CC itself from inside the plastic tube housing. Depends on the CC's and who manufacturs them i suppose, but ive done it before with UV ones.

Addition: be careful not to break it.

    nailed it with a hammer.
that answers my question dead on ty.
those little square ends would make this impossible if i cant remove them.

when you say "nailed it with a hammer" did you rest the hammer on one square end while twisting on the other?

They are possible to remove from the tubes and ends, another member used them in his mod and he also made a youtube video of it. I can't recall his name, but I also remember he sleeved the rods afterwards. He used pliers I believe to slowly crack and break apart the square ends.

After 5 minutes of searching, it was Nutman who did it and here is his youtube video guide he made. Hopefully this helps you, props to Nutman for finding this method out too and being adventurous.

this definitely helps however its also one of those things that raise another question

With the Liquid CCFL version this would remove the effect of the liquid current in the light ya ?

Not having held these "liquid CCFL" Im not shure but it seems to me that the effect requires the outer tube to work. What i really want is the Liquid effectt still intact aswell as the outer tube around the light.

I laughed my ass off. This is what happens when you cannot convey a point correctly in English. No, that's not what he meant, he meant "you nailed it" as in "that's exactly the information I was looking for".

    Carry on.

On the 'liquid' effect ones, there's a little return wire that runs outside the glass tube, so the plastic tube is there to prevent shorting too.
The caps are easy to remove, though, and they work without the plastic housing.
