Electronics Cold cathodes requirements?

    How much current does the average 30cm coldcathode use?
    I tried using the search but couldn't find anything relevant

    Last time I measured mines they were about 375mA on the 12VDC side.
    Could vary a little depending on brand and model...

    I'd have put it a fair bit higher (on my Maplin supplied one), not by measurement but the fact a 2N2222A got stinking hot running it on a throbber circuit.

    However, Sunbeam, on their CCFL page, say their 30cm tube uses 5mA at 620/680V, which after allowing for inverter inefficiency is close to Turbokeu's figure.
