I drink lots of juice and water. Spicy food seems to clear me up for a while, tends to help a sore throat. Exercise helps too. With regard to the people saying being cold doesn't make you get a cold, I thought it was because the cold dry weather makes your nasal passages more susceptible to picking up viruses. And because cold weather makes you stay inside more, you will have closer contact with others.
I actually went in for a couple hours yesterday morning, and several people expressed their gladness when I left... We've actually had that topic come up in a staff meeting... staying home and not infecting others is much better for the organization. It's not like we're in Asia, where courtesy results in all those masked sickos wandering around at work. I've got to say the whiskey (glenlivet 12yo single malt ) has been working a treat. Exercise does help, or at least makes me feel better than laying around all day and sweating. Hot showers and steam help with the feeling better.
I dont take any medication unless I really have to. I take Vitamin C's (a couple big ones every few hours) and tons of water. I once had strep throat that was fairly bad (throat almost bleeding) but instead of going to the doctor I had a whole bunch of vitamin C's and water and it was almost gone the next day and withing 2 days completely gone.
I must be a mutant because I have never had a cold. I've only been sick twice in my life, once when I was 18 (influenza) and when I was 35 (strep throat). The flu put me in the hospital for 3 days and the strep throat turned into pneumonia. AFAIK, it takes a lot of energy to beat any virus, so I imagine lots of fluids and lots of carbohydrates would probably help.
well, I went to the doc today since I was just getting worse. Turns out I've got Sinusitis and Bronchitis. Doc also said I was probably only a day away from pneumonia. I'm on good meds now =)
Had to push start a car once during a cold, tell you what that cleared my nose in one second all over my mates rear window, so funny in all the wrong ways.
Actifed. It's the only thing I've ever taken for a cold that actually does anything. Makes you drowsy a little, but drowsy vs. a cold? A no brainer.
