A long time ago I made this demotivational:

It wasn't much of an exaggeration. This year, if possible, it's gotten even worse. I received this today:

This woman just sends us any goddamn thing she feels like. She often sends us the same thing twice by mistake. She sends stuff to the entire college when it's only for first-years, or third-years, or post-graduates. She sends sports team newsletters to the entire college because she can't be bothered to find the mailing list for the relevant society.

I wouldn't care and would just ignore my uni inbox if that were an option, but you also regularly receive critical emails that must be seen and acted upon immediately lest you fail some critical facet of remaining in the university and on your course. Coursework announcements, deadlines, lecture cancellations, room changes and the like all go by email (and only by email) now. And I have to look over about 5-10 emails a day from this woman just to find out if anything important has gone out. God help me if I don't check it for 3 days consecutively; I have about 2 screens of newsletters, surveys, charity fundraisers and fun facts to sift through.

Can I reasonably tell her to go get molested, do you think? Or is it not worth the risk of her overreacting and trying to get me kicked out of university?

Maybe on your last week there, you could reply ALL to every email she sends for those days with a link to some mailling list software and encourage her to use it instead of sending you so many god awful emails.

Unlike a business I doubt you'll have someone to complain about this - or at least anyone could care less...

I do know one thing though. If I ever go to Uni, it won't be Lancaster.

Man, Lancaster has gone downhill since I left. Tell her to **** off.

Actually, just complain to your tutors and request they contact you through another email address. Either they will (win) or they'll be annoyed and you can explain why (win).

I get that too but it's not nearly as bad...

I bet she has just discovered internet and she is still amazed at the fact that thousands of people can (but don't) read all she writes.

Chat her up and tell her politely to use the mailing lists as it disturbs your reading. Or go to the principal and tell him that you have a serious problem.

Just hit reply all for every single email she ever sends and within each response politely ask to be removed from all mailing lists which do not apply to you.

If any fellow classmates email you complaining about the frequent emails they recieve from you just politely suggest that they email Barbara Glass requesting that the mailing lists be sorted.

Write enthusiastic replies to all of her emails and click 'reply all'. Should go out to the entire student body, no?

set up an automated response to any email she sends, something along these lines:

Then show everyone you know how to set this up, and tell them to spread the word too. Put up tutorials on the boards in the hallways. Build a website for it. Go on national television.

God these people piss me off. The point of taking the exersise this far is not only to ruin her and her life though, it's also to make other students aware that mailing lists are not to be abused.

Christ, I thought I had it bad with the Arts Center emails at my uni!

I'd politely ask her to eff off. Or if you have the time, start sending her a bucketload of pointless emails every day. See how she likes it :p

I take it that you're using Web Outlook. If so (and assuming your IT guys have enabled filter lists) :

    1. In the Navigation Pane, click Options.
    2. Under Privacy and Junk E-mail Prevention, select the Filter Junk E-mail check box.
    3. Click Manage Junk E-mail Lists.
    4. To add a sender to the list, under Blocked Senders, click Add, type an e-mail address or domain in the text box, and then click OK.
    5. To modify a sender in the list, select the recipient, and then click Edit. Change the entry, and then click OK.
    6. Click Save and Close.

Otherwise it sounds like an over enthusiastic manager who has little idea about com-pu-ters, but can Facebook and email like a diva. You'll need to complain to the management or if none of the above work, talk to the IT guys. Protip, bring cookies.

Unfortunately there's always someone in any company who thinks email is the best thing since slamming your genetalia in a car door. But it could be worse, management keep asking about the ability to have messages appear directly on our users desktops. The answer we give is no.

If she has a phone number just call her in her office, and when she picks up, speak your mind and find out whether or not she's going to do something about this. My school had one big optional student announcements mailing list for crap like she's sending you, and everyone could opt out of it. There were also lists for different organizations, clubs, activities, etc. because that just makes goddamn sense.
If that doesn't get it sorted, speak to the head of IT, Dean of students, or someone on the committee that decides things about your school's email system (believe me, they probably have a committee of some sort)
