Is it possible for me to combine to separate digital sources into one?

Basically I want to have either two coax-inputs combining or two optical inputs joining. So I can have alerts from one PC whilst I'm playing on a console.

    Any ideas?

hmm, not without a mixer. you're talking about running into a home receiver, right?

    probably not possible.

Not sure about combining a digital signal but i like to have alerts of email and messages etc whilst gaming so I use a Logitech G15 keyboard to alert me but any old LCD screen would do with the right software.

If it was a straight RCA type analog audio signals you could use a splitter as a combiner.

I can confirm this works, but I always end up with one of the sources being quieter than the second when they're both combined.

    Fod: Yes, exactly that

I don't want extra LCD screens, just a simple combo of audio. Oh well.

You could get a soundcard with optical in and out, have the console into the computer, and have the computer into the amp. Would mean you'd have to have the PC on to play the console, or to change around connections when using the console but not the PC...

That would also add in extra audio lag which I want to avoid wherever possible...

There isn't really a way to combine them. You've got a variety of switchers, but having to manually switch sources kinda defeats the purpose. Don't even think of trying a simple RCA Y-adapter for digital audio. It won't work.

Nah it won't work. You've got an encoded signal going through that cable. It would need decoding, mixing, and then encoding again all before it hit your amp.
