I am wanting to build an I7 for home use, no gaming but will do video capture and editing as well as hdmi output to a TV. I am also trying to keep the system as quiet as reasonably possible.

I need help with the gpu, the one below is a passive one but can I do better or alternatively get a midrange card and put a cooler on it. I don't think I need to spend a bundle here as I do not play games.

Also- how about an alternative memory that might be a tad cheaper?

    The Build-

    Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor $300.00

Total cost so far is only $986.00 which isn't bad for an I7 I don't think

Get a smaller PSU, you don't need 750W for all of that lot.

I use a 600W PSU and my graphics card is an 8800GT (which uses a lot more power than the 9400GT). 500W should be enough.

if your a media machine.. get the msi board MSI X58 Eclipse SLI LGA 1366

it's around a bill more but you get the x-fi for your theater included and the extra pci slot.. it has greenpower genie too, saves you the trouble of checking your voltages with a multimeter.. have to make your own tri-sli bridge if your sucked into nvidia's marketing http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=169509

I guess msi is slow to make a bridge (gee I wonder why.. probably because there's 5 people out there that are going to use it).. docodine has the right idea, go with ati
