Windows doesn't even see it till I confirm it on the buttons. Even if I move the buttons I still have to deal with it every time I boot up. It's just too pointless.

While I think of the monitor, I got back to the keyboard. I got it to fit

I'm purposely using this rusted old piece of steel. I think it's a perfect choice for such an old computer

I attached the keyboard but left the original screw posts to hold the steel in place

Then I cut the holes and added the screws

I also made it big enough to back the keypad too

So once again I have to fill the void. I'm not sure what to use just yet

You should be able to get one of these that fills the hole.

For the screen, how about using a double pole switch for power?
Use one pole to turn the pc on, the other to switch the screen to "monitor mode".

I got the keypad. I meant the void around the edges of the keyboard

I got this old-school style USB keypad

I cut away all the excess and got rid of the NumLock LED

With a tiny bit of trimming the opening, I got it to fit

Then I just had to put the sheet metal back on

    And that's done

Looking really good. Happy to see you decided to make use of the keyboard area and put a monitor in there as well.

Can't wait to see more progress.

I used the motherboard from Project Boom Tube so I could test the screen. I had to plug in one of my LED fans because I could literally not hear it to know if it was even on. But what do you expect from a fanless CPU and an SSD drive?

    And it seems fine

The weird thing about this screen is that it comes with a serial port connection

I guess it's a touch screen? Luckily my MSI 870 does have a rear serial port. Later, I'll see if I can get this feature working

The problem is, getting all this stuff in the case with the PSU next to it. At least that's where I have an extra fan

The LCD fits, but I'll have to cut out this plastic mold where the old CRT was mounted

Once that's cut out, I'll just have to make a black framing to go around the edge of the LCD

looks pretty good, I think a touch screen would be pretty neat in there

So I got the molding cut out

And when I put the LCD in, the PSU no longer fit!

So I'm going back to the Kodak touch-screen photo frame. I want to have it play photos of the build and some old pics of Commodore's past

It just needs a small amount of framing to make it perfect

maybe get some c channel to hide those rough edges around the keyboard / keypad. that plastic does look rather thick though. too bad about the touchscreen not fitting properly.

It's too bad it's too impractical to use as your main monitor, still, I love it and I'll vote for you in MOTM!

...that really was a killer mod! I would love to see a video where you are running the VICE PET emulator on that. old=new=old again

Do you still have the guts from that beast? My PET2001-8 power supply died this morning. I would be willing to buy all your bits and pieces to use as spares to keep mine alive but I live in U.S.

    Fun project.

I need to remove the gaps around the LCD, so I'm going to be using this old side panel from a cheapy Thermaltake V3

Measure six times and then cut once

I'm using a flat black to get rid of the "shiney" look too

I got the LCD frame in

But there's an annoying gap all the way around.

    The fix is black caulk

And that's it. I will take a few days to fully cure, but when it does it'll look a lot cleaner

    Next are the components!

    UPDATE:

    I'm going from 6GB to 16GB of RAM!

It just makes sense to make the specs on an ancient Commodore crazy high

Sexy memory! I hate to say it now, but you'd have been able to use a real screen in there if you hadn't used a full size psu.
