Are you going to paint over that caulk? If not, have you considered just replace the entire front face with a piece of metal or plexi? It would probably be a cleaner/tighter fit for the screen.

I'm finally ready to throw all the stuff in. This board has the extra four pins covered for the CPU power, but I'll be using all eight

The video card is connected. It has just one 6-pin connection

Here's the side port USB connection. I have no idea what the "shield" connection is

I tried a little bit of cable management

And ran the USB 3.0 cable out the back

And made the connections in the back including the one for the keyboard

And that's pretty much everything in here. I still need to plug in the hard drives

"shield" is probably the RF shielding that runs on the outside of the USB cable. more than likely grounded.

I got the hard drives connected.

And then slid the cage back in

Then connected the hard drives to the board

I made a huge mistake. I had my Commodore at Micro Center on display running constant benchmarks. I hadn't ensured there was enough cool air in the case and the motherboard overheated and then blew a Voltage regulator!

I didn't know what had happened, so I tried to fire it back up and then a huge ember lit up and the board (literally) smoked!:eek:

Luckily, I bought the warranty and the next day I got a replacement. I put it all back together. The hard drive, CPU, memory and video card are all fine.

Obviously, I need to get more cool air into the case, even if it means changing the look of the original Commodore shell. I'll just have to go the extra mile to ensure that I make it look as natural as possible.

For the side facing the CPU I have to have a large intake fan

    I'll be using a 120mm, 2000rpm fan

And I'm mounting it to the metal frame so it'll stay in place when I open the shell

    Once closed it's near perfect

The grill will be screwed to the shell and will always line up when closed

First, I need the color to match

It looks a little better than I had hoped. The cooling will be worth it

The other side will have a 92mm, 3300rpm intake fan for cooling the video card

Unfortunately, I do not have a 92mm hole saw, so I used an 80mm one instead

    That will be good enough

Now that the fans are in, the rest of the components are going back in too

And now it's back in my office!

bummer, I was worried about that with mine too, so I ended up with 4 60mm fans in the back (the largest I could fit) This solution doesn't look bad though, I bet most people wouldn't notice it's different anyway.

You lucky bugger! The fans have turned out well, is there a guard on the 92mm too?

    The fans indeed look good.

But... How about painting the fans white? :)
