Hey, I'm building my first PC so just making sure I get it right. Can somebody check if all these parts are compatable and if not tell me? (It's a gaming, recording and editing rig) Thanks 3.5GHz Intel Core i7 3770K 4-Core Ivy Bridge CPU MSI Z77A-G45 Intel Z77 Socket 1155 Ivybridge Ready Motherboard EVGA 2GB GeForce GTX 670 NVIDIA Graphics Card Corsair Memory Vengeance 16GB DDR3 Seagate 1TB SATA 3 Performance Hard Drive NZXT Phantom White Gaming Case Corsair Gamer Series GS600 80+ 600W PSU Xigmatek Aegir Air CPU Cooler Any help will be much appreciated, Thanks in advance, ~Ben
You could drop to the 3570K to save quite a bit of money for very little performance loss. Might be worth it to get an Asus or Gigabyte motherboard instead of MSI. How about the GA-Z77-D3H? I've heard the Corsair GS series isn't quite as good as other Corsairs. Maybe worth checking out other PSUs. Do you have an SSD? Definitely worth squeezing in somewhere.
If this is a gaming rig, which it looks like with the 670, then I would drop the CPU to a 3570K and spend the resulting savings on an SSD for Windows to run off. You'll end up with a much more responsive system. I'd also say that 16GB of RAM is way too much for a gaming rig. 8GB is plenty.
Sorry. Recording gameplay footage of high quality games on high settings and rendering out high quality videos with high quality software.
I'd still say it is overkill, both CPU and RAM. Whilst it is true a 3770 is "better" at rendering (ie: does it a bit faster) it generally isn't worth the cost premium in most cases. Same for RAM, although you can always add more RAM later if you really do feel constrained.
