Hi guys, well its about tiem I posted something here again. Have been so busy at certain events and build that i really way everywhere except near my PC. Anyway, here is the Deal. Asus asked my to build them a case for the IFA press conference which took place in Berlin on the 2nd of September 2015. They would have been happy with a casemod, but when they mentioned it should be to present their new hardware (listed below), I opted for a scratch build. I did indeed think it over again when they told me I had barely two weeks to make it, but am actually now glad I scrathed it off because I am really happy with the result. Yes it was made in barely 12 days before I drove to Berlin and presented it. Asus sent me the following Asus Hardware and the other stuff I needed. Intel 6th Gen. I5 16 Gigs of Klevv DDR4 Ram Enermax 1000 Watt Revolution87x PSU Asus Supreme FX Audio HIFI Module Asus ROG Maximus M8 Extreme Assembly Two Asus ROG Matrix GTX 896 TI Platinum Grafik Cards Asus ROG Triple SLI Bridge ASUS Rog 10gbit NEtwork Card I also added an Enermax Liqtech 120mm Fan and Liquid Processor Cooler. As you will see in the video presentation I made a throne to present the hardware as well and worthy as possible. I tilted the whole case forward approx. 30° and scrapped a non name case for the base plate and card slot back plate. Otherwise its all wood, mdf, Plexi and all sorts of stuff which i upcycled to match the design. I only gave it bernstein browny orange leds to match the new ROG color scheme and it even has a webcam modded into the theme. All in all I wanted the same stealthy look with bernstein orange subtle coloring to highlight the contours and that it looks more like a lethal weapon than a normal case. am quite happy with the result, even though with more time at hand it could have been better. but for a scratch build in that time span its not bad at all. I took it back home to complete the back and top before it jumps the pond to america. AND ALL THAT WAS ACHIEVED IN JUST 12 DAYS, WHEW. I PRACTICALLY HAD RED BULL DRIPS STUCK PER NEEDLES DIRECTLY INTO MY VIENS everything worked and here are the first pics of the the worklog. Asus sent me some basic ideas of what their them should depict, but i had all the freedom i needed of course to design it myself I started by salvaging the base plate for the mboard. am using a z170 as a prop for size here with an old gead grafikcard, also a sa mock up prop. [/IMG] [/IMG] i built the podium tilted forward for the board [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] testing the space required before enclosing it all. [/IMG] unfortunatley i dont have many pics for example of making this base. its basically two layers of mdf with a caviity in between. the psu and cable will be sunk in lying on the bottom plate. [/IMG] this will be the Enermax liqtech 120mm fan and radiator frame also tilet twoards the mb. [/IMG] [/IMG] here you cann see the PSU is on the bottom floor and the mb tray on the first. [/IMG] [/IMG] i staretd sticking on the inner plates to the mdf contour frames i made. i wanted no parallel side at all, so symetric lines, all in different angles. STEALTH will by covered later with stealthy plexi plates.. [/IMG] you can recognise the basic shell now [/IMG] here you can see the 5 1/4" opeing at the bottom right i made for the Asus sfx hifi module. [/IMG] this a a nice feature, made of candy jar lids i got from my sister inlaw. i used two of them as fan air inlets and outlets. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] then it was practically time for the first primer. for mdf i use normal dispersion matt paint. because mdf sucks a lot and this paint acts also as a layer of primer as well as like a thin layer of putty and fills up holes and scrathes etc..seeing as the case color will be black anyway, i took black paint as a primer. [/IMG] [/IMG] of course after sanding it once you realise just where you need reall puttying. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] this lida as well as the back plate (later) can be taken of for maintenance etc.. even thougn to screw in cards you dont need to, you will see in other fotos that you can access the slot screws anyway.[/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] second sanding done [/IMG] [/IMG] then it was ready for tzhe first real layers of primer an filler. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] more to come.. now it will get painted.
It screams TYPEWRITER all overe the place! Hi, mod on! Very curious on the development of this project
yeah it does a bot doesnt it, it changes though. so i carried on with the primer layers and sanding and then went on to the first black layers and decorating the POD. [/IMG] i desiected a camera and started to mod a new enclsure for it. it will sit snug at the top left like a surveillance camera [/IMG] [/IMG] am making the camera caseand other stealthy plates the color of the plexi is irrelevant because it will alll be painted black. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] i dont have and dont use a cnc so i had to get down to making the rog and asus logos. that was work. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] some mor spoilers and holders. [/IMG] these are actually spray can safets caps and garden sprinkler anglöe connectors.[/IMG] [/IMG] it was then time to start the coppy gold ASUS new theme coloring [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] a few more highlighting spoilers and conturers. [/IMG] hen the ASUS delivery came, the hifi audio fx panel [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] the safety caps look like little daleks [/IMG] moment of shock, wehn the two asus MATRIX GTX980 TI`s came they were a few cms longer than i thought they would be. so after first of all being set aback and shocked, i got down to re modding the almost finished mod, had to cut straight though my frechly painted front and redesign the formt with the cards. [/IMG] [/IMG] i made a cover for the 10gbit netwrok card out of an old videocassette cover. [/IMG] [/IMG] fitting in the psu, radiotur liqtech of enermax and co.. [/IMG] wiring this baby up, thats the part i hate the most. [/IMG] the enermax liqtech processor cooler was unfortunately with blue leds, so i stuck and ASUSm ROG plate on it.[/IMG] wiring in the amber bernstein leds all over the mod and sticking the coppery gold elements on for contrast.[/IMG] [/IMG] i then got the klevv ram delivers [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] so, thats all for now, the next post will be the final pics. [/IMG]
thanks icelander, hukkel, colonel and handmadeandroid. am glad you like it. hukkel you seem to know it already, were you at the IFA in Berlin. well, then i was actually ready and didnt have any time left anyway so this is pretty much the package that i drove to Berlin for the ASUS PRESS CONFERENCE at the IFA. I afterwards took the machine back to complete its back and some little wiring issues that i didt get finished. but here are the fotos of what the press saw and some videos too. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] the usb hub is now black too. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [IMG] [IMG][IMG] [IMG][IMG]http://i1307.photobucket.com/albums/s592/abbas-it/POD%20Power%20on%20Demand/finalsathome/PICT0417_zpspxdx6xqe.jpg]http://i1307.photobucket.com/albums/s592/abbas-it/POD%20Power%20on%20Demand/finalsathome/PICT0416_zpsxctbftyq.jpg[/IMG][/IMG]http://i1307.photobucket.com/albums/s592/abbas-it/POD%20Power%20on%20Demand/finalsathome/PICT0415_zpsuf1t7kos.jpg[/IMG][/IMG] here is a video made by instalki. and here is the asus press conference presentation, you can see all the press stuf or skip to the P.O.D. part from minute no. 28:30 onwards..
Neat! -as usual. Love your StarWars prop style. When you were working the plexi I thought you might be making a hardware cover, Then I realized you didn't have time to finish something like that. The crazy-big video cards are becoming a real problem.
hi cheapskate, thx. yes sir time was indeed against me here, barely 12 day for a scratch build was really tight. no real time to sit back and ponder about how it should turn out. and yes the Cards were bigger than i thought they would be but i like the way it turned out anyway. it Looks as if they are Magazine that can be locked and loaded togather. in a way they can too.
yeah i know, the nicis in the first. seeing as ist a bus System, thats technically not a Problem. the nic is also new and if i put it left of the gpus then you didnt see it good and it looks better this way. the bus doenst allow any grfaik Performance decrease and it Looks better. why be conventional
thanks mate, yes am also surprised whats possible under the constraints of an approaching deadline. and that it has become such a rugged stable robust case too. i am indeed proud of it because of the just 12 day sesssion. am patting my own shoulders.
yeah it does look a little bit like a typewriter, have heard that many a time. the good thing is this baby can do more than printing letters though.
