my computer won't start. there is a light on the motherboard that are indicating that there is electricity but when I push the power putton nothing happens

I have already changed the motherboard to a new ASUS and switched the PSU to an Antec 450W but it won't work!

The MoBo is an ASUS socket A with an AMD CPU.

    Please help me, with this!!!

Sounds like a dead CPU / CPU issue if you've already tried a different motherboard, try a different CPU.

It's not my computer, it's my neighbors and they doesn't do Overclocking and open the chassie to do things. It have just been standing there on the floor and it worked perfectly until a couple of days ago!

Is your power button broken? Disconnect it from the motherboard and try using a screwdriver to make the connection where the switch connects.

Hey man you need to check everything. Memory, CPU, Video, and even the mobo. Make sure you have working components. The memory might not be compatible with the mobos..?

There's a thread somewhere with pretty much exactly the same problem as you, I'll try and dig it out.

EDIT: Can't find the thread, but the problem was the PSU I think.

Do the fans and HDDs power up? If not it may be the button because the mobo light will still be on even if the computer is off.

If they do, it is likely to be the RAM or PSU, make sure its cooled properly, the fact that you've changed the mobo means you've put a risk on the CPU.

i had this same problem, it usually happens if u have added any new hardware to it (even if there is nothing rong with the hardware) its just the pc being stupid, take any cards out and the power supply to the mobo plug it all back in and it should be fine, sounds simple but worked for me.

You might be talking about a Thread I created a while back here. Basically I had to replace this generic 420Watt PSU for a better one. I replaced it with a ThermalTake 420Watt PSU and it powers the 64-bit system...

Everything would power up, even the devices, but the board just didn't have enough power on the generic psu. But it seems that this Antec PSU should do the job for this dude. But maybe the psu is bad? PSU's can go bad like that. I have 2 of them that give power but don't have power actually!

try a full cmos reset.take power lead out of psu.move jumper to clear cmos.and remove battery for 30 mins. then put it back in,jumper back and power lead and switch on.fingers crossed it will work.but id recommend taking the ram out and testing in another working system. also a known working cpu put into this system will narrow it down a lot.

This happened to my system a few days ago. Turned out that one of the power connectors wiggled loose.

If this isn't the problem, try shorting the switch wires. If its not that, you have dead hardware.

I take it no fans/hdds are spinning?

If its not the power switch maybe the old psu went pop, if it did its most likely killed the cpu.

Unless you have a machine to test the cpu and ram in then you want to do this.

    +turn the pc off

    +unplug the power cable

+clear the cmos and take the battery out if you want

+leave the computer off for a few mins or at the very least a minute so the ram has no power to hold any data etc

+remove/unplug any parts that are not needed...

    -all cards (appart from gfx)

    -all drives (inlcluding hdd)

-make sure all molex's are unpluged from any devices

-If you have two sticks of ram use 1

-unplug all external devices appart from keyboard and monitor

+ try and boot up, if it does turn on but you get a black screen make a note of the beeps and check your manual, if you get a black screen with no beeps try 1 of the sticks of ram in each slot (turning off and unpluging pc for a couple of mins in between stick), if you have a secound stick repeat the process with that one. It would be ideal if you had some older ram to try aswel, say pc2100.

It would be a great help if you could list the model of the motherboard and make and model of the ram and the model of the cpu.

Have you tried using a really big hammer yet  :hip:

Although I hate to say it, froggy might have a good point.

Me and a mate were totally boggled by this system the other day, stripped it down about four times before I realised the power switch was rodgered :wallbash:

    it's normally the simplest things.

Like most people will say, take it all out of the case, just have the bare components plugged in (i.e. mobo, cpu, ram, gfx, psu) and see if you get anything with a bit of joggery pokery lol (very technical term)

Anyway, hope you get some life out of it, nothing worse than a totally dead pc.
