Hey guys! For the past month i have been having problems with my computer. I can't tell if it is the cpu temp, the operating system, or something else. I would like to reinstall windows media edition which is what i have on my computer but i don't have a CD with it on it. is there someway i can extract the os and put it on a disk so i can reinstall it. or can someone find a windows xp pro for the lowest price? Thanks, Ace
Yes there is... but nobody is gonna tell ya where to get it, on the open forums... even if you do own an official licence key/serial for it! Another option, is to try and find a friend who uses XP Media Centre 2005, and ask them to make a copy of the CD for you But I have to ask. Why don't you have a CD for it yourself? If it was pre-installed on the system... they should have provided you with either the CD, or the OS in a 'recovery' partition on the hard drive - from which you could you should be able to burn a CD? Google for the best price yourself
ya i have recovery disk wat can i do with that. and can people not tell u how to extract windows becuase??.......its illegal?
You can't extract it. The answer would be to get a torrent of a warez version, but use you legal CD key with it.
Did you not get any documentation with the system, explaining how to use the Recovery CD Anyways... a 'Recovery' CD, is effectively a Windows XP CD - with 'extras' streamlined onto it by the system supplier (i.e. all your hardware drivers, pre-installed programs etc). After you've booted from the CD, you should be presented with an option to load/apply an 'image' of your system... an 'image' made after the supplier had added all the extras mentioned above. So... boot from the 'Recovery' CD - like you would a standard XP CD, and you'll be able to restore your system from an 'image' on the CD. Once completed... your system will be back to how it was when you first received it from the supplier **** If possible... be sure to backup anything important/anything you want to keep, before you re-image the hard drive (HDD), because the HDD will be reformatted, so you'll lose everything which was on it!
great ill try it thanks for the help. i have a vague memory of how to boot from cd i know its in the boot setup/menu right?
As I've mentioned above... it's a simple matter of inserting the XP/Recovery CD, and rebooting the system If your system boots to the desktop after doing so - rather than booting from the CD... it's because your system hasn't been setup properly/as it should've been by the system supplier, such that your optical drive is set as the first boot device. You can easily change that in the BIOS though - if necessary. But try booting from the Recovery CD first, before worrying about how to change the device boot order
