Can anybody help. Every now and again my computer just locks up. I have got it overclocked, but even when I Slow it down it still happens. Running XP Pro, Gigabyte 7DXR Motherboard, with updated bios. PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cries:
back up the hard disk using ghost, then try a fresh install of a OS. If that solves your problem you know its a software error, if it does it after a clean install then you start to look at faulty hardware. Also try putting your bios settings to the "safe mode" in the bios menu. You dont really tell us much from the info you have given us, does it happen after a period of time etc. Imp
reformating is the last step u wanna take.....we need more info....u say it locks, where does it lock @? what kinda lock is it, blue screen? just reboots? just sits there? screen go crazy?....check out ur voltages and temps as said before....
Lockup It just happens every now and again, sometimes I could be running it for hours and nothing, and somtimes 10 mins. No it doesn't get to blue screen. Think i might try ghost. I tried installing windows again, over old one but it still happens. Thanks for your Info guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
would 2000 be an option? if you use XP in classic mode, chances are you won't even tell the difference aside from stability.. 2000 has SP2 out and is just more mature.. XP's service pack is due out in another month or so ive heard..
yea i cant tell a difference...and im use desktop x so really cant tell a difference with the looks....the only true reason i luv xp is the drivers...tons of drivers.....tons and tons and tons of driver.....some are crappy *vid drivers to be exact* but still very very useful.....i remeber sitting there for half an hour just installing drivers.....sound card drivers....vid card drivers....mouse drivers........keyboard drivers.....montior drivers.....nic card drivers....on and on millions of cds and floppies......ok im done...its 12:30 and im really wired....
Locking up Thanks again for your info but like you said i do love XP so much even thou i am using it in classic mode. Games do run faster in XP. And thats whats it all about. Had a little play in my bios yesterday, It ran for at least 4 hours and still no crash. So fingers crossed!!!!!!!!
Have you changed any hardware recently or removed pci cards and replaced them. Its just that i stripped out my system to paint the case and after i reinserted everything the damn system would just crash or hang ,usually in a graphics application. It took me ages to fix , new drivers , underclocking my graphics card , fresh install of XP and so on. I ran sandra to check my IRQ setting and foung 4 things sharing the same IRQ , shouldnt have been a prob but I took out my sound card and put it in another pci slot , looked at the IRQ settings and this time every device had its own unique IRQ number , since then ive had no crashes or frozen screens , plus i can now overclock my graphics card ( a little anyway)
