    I've just built a new machine come to turn it on.. it powers on but doesn't POST. It then restarts itsself and GOTO 10.

    you can try and reset the cmos.. it should be a jumper on your motherboard

    I've already tried the battery but I'll look for a jumper.

    I had a very similar thing happen when changing a radiator this week. Turns out I had a fun that was shorting the board out. Try unplugging everything non essential and trying it adding one thing at a time. Takes ages, but it will identify the problem.

    I took the mobo out of the case as I suspected that, next step I think I'll take the PSU out and just try them both together.

    What are the system specs? It might be a known issue with your motherboard or some other component.

    1600 MHz and faster ram should run fine at 1333. In fact, the BIOS should set it to a supported speed by default.

    We can rule that out then although we can't reach the BIOS yet.

    Take out one stick of ram, and try it with a known good PSU. Make sure all components are seated properly.

    Tried with a known working PSU.. same problem. (So the PSU is fine).
    It's now either the RAM, the Mobo or the CPU all of which are new. I don't have a spare CPU so I go about taking about my Mini server for the DDR3 RAM - Wallah! boots.

    I had it all cable tied in as well, meh, that's going to have to be re-done and I'm going to have to break this to the client!

    So the issue was the RAM was 1600MHz and the board only supports 1333MHz max.

    Have you tried the RAM in a known good motherboard? It sounds like you so far have tested good RAM in the mobo, but not the other way round yet?

    I ask because there's no reason any motherboard should reject RAM which is too fast. Since the days of SDRAM I've been running PC133 at PC100 for example!

    Generally;

    If the ram is good - but incompatible - you'll get error beeps.

    If the ram is faulty - or there is too much for the system to support - you'll get a blank screen, and possibly reboot beeps.

    I haven't tested the 1600MHz RAM, nope, the only board I've got that takes DDR3 is the MicroServer is tidied away. There were no beeps at all just powers up, reboots, loop.

    This is a client build, he's just gone and ordered 2x 4GB Kingston 1333MHz RAM for £36 that'll do the job and I'll just give him these others back.
