If i buy windows 8 from PC world, argos, etc its £49.99 If i buy it direct from microsoft its £189.99 bit of a price jump there, anyone got any idea why? even just the upgrade from MS is £99.99 argos - http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/s...results_trigger=(free_text==(+WINDOWS_x20_8)) PC world - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/microsoft-windows-8-pro-17907965-pdt.html MS - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/buy
Isn't the Windows 8 on Argos and PC world upgrades as well though? Maybe it has to go cheap as they are not selling maybe? Also, isn't running/run a promotion where the upgrade was £20? Maybe its just trying to be competitive with that.
All MS has released is an upgrade disk unless you have MSDN. You can still do a clean install from the media though - just boot from it, delete your partitions and continue the install.
They are all upgrade there isn't a retail version, The Argos and PC world prices are what M$ was doing them at to get win8 selling I'm guessing they are old stock and once they have gone the price will go up in line with M$ I would grab one while they are cheap you can still do a custom install with the upgrade
thanks all, i did buy one but am having issues with installation. if you could take a look here http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?p=3298064#post3298064 it would be much appreciated. i would post it on this thread but dont want to be going off topic.
I bought Pro from Currys?PCWorld for £49.99 a couple of weeks back and Ive seen them in ASDA for the same, I think they must have to keep the price of the units they have left untill they sell.
Both £49.99 and £189.99 are the same upgrade version, that is officially you need a original Windows XP/Vista/7 to use it. The £49.99 is the original "cheaper" upgrade packaging which lasts until they have it in stock. There is no retail version. For €90 you can get Windows 8 OEM, for 135€ Windows 8 Pro OEM. What is different in OEM versions is the small note about personal use, which gives you near retail rights if you register on the personal use licence website.
