its an agp card , so why does it have support for pci e i thought that an agp card could not go into a pcie mobo

    thanks:)

It comes in both arrangements, PCI-e and AGP.

The GPU that the GeForce 6600GT uses, NV43, is a native PCI-Express GPU. The AGP part makes use of NVIDIA's HSI bridge chip, which bridges is back to allow it to run on the AGP interface.

The AGP part is slightly downclocked, at least, from a reference sample point of view. However, we may see vendors using the same clocks as the PCI-Express version.

    PCI-Express part = 500MHz core/1000MHz memory
    AGP part = 500MHz core/900MHz memory

Board partners are given the freedom to clock the core and memory to whatever they want, but it must be clocked to 500/1000 minimum on PCI-Express and 500/900 minimum on AGP in order to be a GeForce 6600GT. :)
