    I purchased these today, pretty much because I thought they looked really cool, but I have plans for them.

    I want to make a table kind of thing in which you clamp metal into so it can move in X and Y directions for my drill press. Like my own milling machine.
    But the #1 problem is the wiring. If they had only 4 wires, I'd know how to power and control them, but they have 8 and I don't know where to begin.

    Anyone have a wiring diagram?

    Thanks guys,

    Is there no part number stamped on them? That's usually a good start. Otherwise,

    At a guess, same colours will be ends of same coil, but a multimeter will soon show you.

    Okay, this is what I have established:

    Left side --- Right side
    Yellow ----> Black
    Grey ------> Red
    Red ------> Grey
    Black -----> Yellow

    And the sequence that I have found to work:

    Positive ----- Negative
    Grey(left) --- Red(right)
    Yellow(left) - Black(right)
    Red(right) --- Grey(left)
    Black(right) - Yellow(left)

    Although it works, it doesn't move in equal increments. Every third increment is slightly larger than normal. Is this the motor or my sequence?

    Aargh!

    If it's doing that then the sequence is incorrect - Either you have the coils in the wrong sequence or one or more of the coils is connected in reverse. :)

    I have found a wiring technique that will simplify my controller board. But I could also put the coils in parallel which will increase power, but then again make the controller board complex. But it's pretty strong as it is.

    Here is a picture of the increments made by attaching a piece of wire to the shaft and marking with a pen at each step.

    It looks pretty equal to me, I think? I have this one salvaged stepper motor with 0.9deg/step increments. I don't know why I added that, anyone else with a more accurate stepper motor?

    TBH, if it looks right it should be - you would notice uneven steppings.
