I suppose this is the problem with representative drmocracy, you get elected leaders who truly represent the will of the people
I'm not sure I agree. With our current system, we get leaders who hire psychologists and behaviorists so that they can dupe an unwitting public into believing things that don't necessarily make sense. I'm inclined to hope that the general public knows better than to buy into the idea that a leader who happens to be Muslim is better or worse than a leader who happens to be Christian. The public just needs to learn to wade through the b.s. that politicians shovel during election time. -monkey
but monkey, the elections are over. i guess he's starting to shovel for the next one? i'm aghast at this one. this is up here with george allen's "macaca" brouhaha. that's funny, i thought one of america's values and beliefs was religious tolerance...
I doubt that somehow. First, they don't need that kind of expertise because the public is stupid, and like good confidence tricksters, most politicians need nobody to tell them that (if they did, they wouldn't be smart enough to be politicians). Second, they have media and marketing experts. It works the other way around: they find out what the public wants or believes, then they sell it to them. By the time the public realises they have been suckered, they are already drawn well into the next con. I take it you meant to say: "I'm inclined to hope that the general public knows better than to buy into the idea that a leader who happens to be Muslim is somehow better or worse than a leader who happens to be Christian." Watch those complicated double negatives.
That's very true. A politician's standard election campaign does include media and marketing experts to help spin the right message to the right people. Still, it's not unusual for campaigns to hire psychologists (or other people who specialize in human behavior) to help the marketers spin a really effective message. They may be clever tricksters, but they don't have as much insight as you psychologists. Nice catch. That's what I get for posting when tired. -monkey
