    Hi,
I have a DSP demo board which is powered from an AC/DC adaptor (5V). I also have another instrument which is supplied by a separate AC/DC adaptor (15 V) and it is used to provide a signal to the DSP. I was wondering if I could tie the two grounds from the two separate adaptors together?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to Bit, omid300 :thumb:
The lead between the two may be doing it for you, if it works don't mess. You'll certainly need at least 2 wires between them, signal and ground, but adding extra ground links may be counter-productive.

    Thanks for the Welcome!
The prblem is that it doesn't work, the 5 V signal provided by the instrument is not 5V compared to the DSP ground. That's why I wanted to connect the grounds together.

assuming that these are just plug in "wall wart" power supplies and share a common ac source, you should be able to wire the returns together so they reference the same point.

I took a risk and connected the grounds together and nothing bad happened, so I guess my problem is resolved! thanks for your help.
