Hello, I need to connect my old DVD-ROM drive from a laptop so I could use it in my regular PC (with a little modding of course ). I saw ZapWizard had used one for AmmoPC, but I was not able to find such device. Could anyone please help out? (Anything name, online store, DIY etc.)
im not sure what shops these are available at, but theyre always easy to get hold of on eBay. c.u.later
try searching for something like ide adapter, quite easy to find. done a search, results: ebay search
There are not many laptop optical drives that use a mini-IDE connector, most use the horrible connector seen in this auction: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41994&item=6779891047&rd=1 on the left side of the board on the low/left side of the picture, the strange black connector.
glargh that "strange black thing" also known as an atapi connector also known as an Mini-ide connector I used the exact same adapter and it works flawlessly to a normal Ide cable. the onlything you hafta watch out for is that the atapi connector isn't really a load bearing connector thus it will fall out of the back of the drive quiet easily. I would just like to add that most every laptop drive I've seen uses the atapi connector, and its not hard finding the adapters for a few bucks
No, that is not a mimi-IDE connector, the mini-IDE is what you find on 2.5" harddrives, its basically a 44pin IDE connector (2 extra ground, 2 +5V), but with a smaller distance between the pins What i tried to point out is that you do not use the same connector for a laptop harddrive and a laptop optical drive.
I think they have such things on www.kustompcs.co.uk assuming you're looking for what I think you're looking for, is this right? http://kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Kustom_PCs_Shop_Laptop___SFF_Drives_87.html
