    Hello,
I need to connect my old DVD-ROM drive from a laptop so I could use it in my regular PC (with a little modding of course :D ). I saw ZapWizard had used one for AmmoPC, but I was not able to find such device.

Could anyone please help out? (Anything name, online store, DIY etc.)

think you need a 2.5 - 3.5 ide connector, possibly!

glargh that "strange black thing" also known as an atapi connector also known as an Mini-ide connector

I used the exact same adapter and it works flawlessly to a normal Ide cable. the onlything you hafta watch out for is that the atapi connector isn't really a load bearing connector thus it will fall out of the back of the drive quiet easily.

I would just like to add that most every laptop drive I've seen uses the atapi connector, and its not hard finding the adapters for a few bucks

No, that is not a mimi-IDE connector, the mini-IDE is what you find on 2.5" harddrives, its basically a 44pin IDE connector (2 extra ground, 2 +5V), but with a smaller distance between the pins

What i tried to point out is that you do not use the same connector for a laptop harddrive and a laptop optical drive.
