Have to admit i'm being tempted by the dark side (console gaming ;) )

Theres quite a few xbox360 games i want to try, most will be borrowed from my friend... However, the main problem i have is i sold the TV in my room ~4 years ago through total lack of use :p

I do not want to buy another TV as i do not have the room for it, what would be perfect though, is to use my PC's screen for it (doubly so as i'm planning to get a 22" or 24" LCD after xmas)

Now, hardware-wise i have a Radeon HD 2900XT with full AVIVO (video in/out) which i presume could handle it, but i'm a bit lost how you'd actually use it...
Doesn't seem to be any software provided to play input video, unless i'm missing something obvious :)

I have my old gamecube to use to test the video input before i go buy anything as well.

Any ideas as to where to start?

What monitor do you have atm? Does it have multiple inputs? The easiest way to connect something up that I know of would be to get a DVI convertor (assuming you have a spare DVI port) and plug it in directly.

does the tuner accept component input?

if not you may have to get an HD tuner with component or wait and get a 24" screen with component input

I use a cheap TY-Tuner that has S-Video and Composite in.

so do I, as I only have SD consoles, and by using GB-PVR in RAW mode I can get real-time feed but still record game footage.

I think the best thing to do would be to buy the fantastic Dell 2407WFP, which aside from being an excellent monitor, has VGA, DVI, Composite, Component, and SVideo outputs. And I'm sure there are cheaper monitors with similar offerings, but the Dell is the only one I have personal experience with.

I can't offer you any help for using your current hardware, though. I've never used a tuner card.

So long as the Video capture drivers are installed, you could use the likes of VLC which can capture from video input cards (File > open capture device) . :thumb:

If you're using a Xbox360 then you can just buy the VGA cable for it, and connect it to your existing monitor directly. Its by far the easiest way.

Is there not lag using the tuner card. Last time i tried, Sonic was unplayable given the delay from the console to the monitor via the P3 pc.
    edit:
Also watch your aspect ratio, last time i looked at buying a 360 it didn't support 16:10 for my widescreen.

you remove the lag by turning off live preview, this gives the raw uncoded feed

GB-PVR is the only program I've found so far with this capability

Firstly, thank you for all the replies :)

This 17" LCD at the moment BenQ FP737s-D
and also a 17" CRT as a secondary screen
DVI port on the LCD is in use, but the VGA port is free.
(also, if i do get a new screen, this LCD will replace the CRT as the secondary screen)

I never knew that, that helps a lot, i shall try it this weekend :)

This sounds the best solution if i don't get the 2900XT video-in working properly
