Isn't it likely that RD600 will also support mastercard-less Xfire, whereas the 975X requires the dongle? [I'm not sure I've read this anywhere, I think I'm just jumping to conclusions based on support in RD580 based boards for AMD processors].
You can run dongle-less CrossFire on 975X, as far as I know... there will just be a large bottleneck. Performance will be better on RD600 though, thanks to the dual 16-lane interconnects
Dongleless on certain cards, and next gen R600 Crossfire high end will be dongleless. High end atm passes far too much data across the PCIe bus to make it work: this is what Tim refers to as the large bottleneck.
Hey, wondering when these R600 boards are gonna start showing up as projects on hold till i can actually get hold of a conroe!
Here's a noob question for you all... What are some guidelines I can follow to even make sure a board will run Conroe/Allendale? It's not simple like AM2 will run all AMD AM2 CPUS. So far, I just know there's P/Q965 and i975X, and possibly some 945 etc, and you have to check this revision and that. AHHHHH!
I've certainly read that people have tried mc-less Xfire with 1900GT's on 975XBX and it has not worked for them. I don't know about "lesser" graphics cards; Bindibadgi appears to suggest that it works (at least for some). I've only researched the 1900GT question, so I couldn't say.
If they don't come out with some good conroe boards yet. I am going AM2. I am looking at a COnroe 6700 so if you guys find boards look up sli for me 2.
