Hi folks, following advice in another thread on here I waited a month or so before buying the parts to upgrade this Rig I am now lost in a maze of confusion trying to figure out what bits go best with a Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4ghz - Skt775 Fsb1066 4mb Cache (Conroe right ) I will need... A MoBo that supports at least four IDE devices (I haven't gone SATA yet but intend to) Some stable RAM (At least 1GB) A quiet GFX Card (ASUS 7600GS Silent 512MB DDR2 PCI-E was my original Choice) A quiet CPU Cooler (Arctic Cooling, Thermaltake, Zalman ???) These are the parts that I will ideally be keeping, but I doubt I can use all the HDD's unless I get a card) Lian-Li PC7 Case ANTEC NEO Power 480w PSU (Also controlling 3x ANTEC Case Fans) 3x 300GB Maxtor IDE HDD's (Upgrading to SATA in future) 1x 160GB Samsung Spinpoint (Upgrading to SATA in future) 1x Plextor Plexwriter Premium 2x Pioneer DVD-109 (Might not be using both) Thanks again for your valued opinions
Tim sez, Asus Nforce 4 X16 board. Only one you'll find with 4 IDE and conroe support, but you'll have to double check the BIOS support when you buy.
what do you mean if you can use all drives? there are tons of ways to use drives without actually having to put them into the computer. you can make them external or you could buy a motherboard with 2 slots ( which makes 4 ide slots in all). if your planning to run raid 5 with four drives or just having them seperate i would say go for 500w but then i you have 480w already and adding 20w i think is not too much for the price.
