Just wondering if anyone knows any of the legal rights a consumer has? I paid for a TV last November (through eBay) from a company that normally sell computer parts (completely legitimate company). Now, long story short, after a lot of phone calls over the following months after not receiving the item, I was told various things (lost stands, broken tv's etc). I actually forgot about it after a while, but phoned them again around 2 months ago to be told that the company has gone bust, and is filing for bankruptcy (I also received a letter a few days later which went into more detail). The letter reads; "Dear Mr Rigg We are sorry to advise that Lemac had to stop trading, as the company could not sustain the increasing loss made during the past few months. We were mainly an Internet mail order company, which recently was struggling to maintain the margin necessary to cover the additional overheads generated by our move to new premises over a year ago. Unfortunately, the expected margin did not materialise and we had no choice but to cease trading after thirteen years in business. We are currently assessing our finances and are looking into preparing a financial statement which will be forwarded to you as soon as it is ready." So, am I legally entitled to my money back, or does the bankruptcy situation change things? I must admit, I haven't phoned them since I received the letter, but I will in the next few days to find out whats going on, and get more info... Matt
Doesn't sound good imo but I wish you loads of good luck. Try get down to your local Consumer Advice Centre & have a talk with them, they are normally very good at sorting things out.
