Hi Can someone pls help i want to do this Now im in the uk and the rheostat used in the picture is no longer available now could i use a pot instead if so what would the circuit have to be like, in other words can someone pls draw me a diagram of the wiring and what exactly i will need I will be controlling 4x Y.S. Tech 80mm fans with this, nothing fancy is needed just want to increase and de-crease the fan speed, all i really want is this but i cant get the circuit behind it figured out pls help thanks sboy
The component in the picture is a potentiometer. Just hook a lead up to the center terminal and then to a side terminal of your liking. You may want to wire the unused terminal to the center terminal so if the wiper breaks, and they have been known to break, the fan will keep running.
Almost certainly will "break" most pots are 0.25W and thats gonna be handling way over that power on almost any fan.. I can also get 3W rheos that do fit a faceplate but they cost £4.50 each!! ouch.. I get in 100Watt speaker controllers for people when requested they control fans pretty well - just 60mm in diameter so not fitting a faceplate very well..
You could use a transistor... Or, you could do some more complex stuff, I take it that you've already seen macromans article, all those are good solutions. Signing out...
