Does anybody know of software (pref freeware) that will convert from mp3 to mid format? I am looking to convert so that I can save these files on my phone as ringtones.

    Cheers

I've tried a bunch with no acceptable results. Converting a WAV/MP3 etc to MIDI is not easy. The software I found sampled the wave and attempt to extrapolate the correct pitch, frequency, etc. At best I got a MID that somewhat sounded like the original MP3 played by one instrument. If you are going for polyphonic, forget it. Your better off getting the sheet for the song or Googling the title and seeing if you can find the MID or sheet. If you find the sheet, then it’s easy to find a Freeware MID authoring program. I have found the MID for almost every song I wanted to download to my phone by searching on Google..

I use Cubase at home, and even that has major problems converting audio to wav.

Most tunes should be available online/ at fan sites, etc.

Google it - or search in those 'OTHER' places..... :)
