Original story Wow, I'm honestly surprised. This is a good thing, not only because it shows once again that the American voter, even in Alaska isn't as dumb as I thought, but also it puts a big roadblock in the way of Sarah Palin's plans to run for president in 4 years.
Gee... thanks... But I am very glad Stevens lost, its about time we had some new blood in our political system... After all, we all know the internet is a series of tubes and not a big truck
Key word being the narrow majority are not as dumb as thought. I mean most races where one candidate was a convicted felon should be a slam dunk.
what he said! And it's not even drunk driving or domestic violence or something else that's irrelevant to his functioning: it's corruption! He is convicted of being corrupt. I really do not understand this. He is convicted of being corrupt, and his party still backs him? People still vote for him? Let's do that: put Paris Hilton in charge of Education, Bill Gates on Antitrust, Bill O'Reily for a Free Speech Committee, OJ on an ethical thinktank, Whitney Houston as CEO for the DEA, Michael Jackson to lead UNICEF, Kenneth Lay on treasury, johnny Cochran on the supreme court, and Osama Bin Laden for pope!
Well, it is Alaska. Even if only 5 people voted for Stevens, that would still only give the other guy a narrow margin. -monkey
Many people weren't voting for Stevens so much as electing a republican to the position. Republicans figured to hold onto the office even after Stevens would have had to step down when he would have been ousted by the senate. Palin would have appointed a new GOP senator to fill the slot when he lost his standing with the senate.
