Another "I need some help" thread! I finished my HTPC build on Friday - essential specs as follows: CPU - Intel Core i3 530 Mobo - Gigabyte H55M-UD2H HDD - Samsung 1.5TB Ecogreen Case - Antec Fusion Black Optical - LG Blu-Ray RAM - 4GB OCZ Gold PSU - Silverstone Strider 500W (massive overkill, but every cable is modular, it's near-silent and the cheapest I could find) Edimax PCI 802.11n Wireless card TV - Compro E700 + T750F It's been rock solid since I first ran it on Friday evening, but thanks to using the stock Intel stock cooler it's actually louder than my gaming rig... and I wouldn't mind getting the CPU temperature down from 67-73 degrees C So I need an alternative that's quieter and, if possible, cooler. As I need something that fits inside the Antec Fusion (AFAIK it needs to be 116mm or less in height) AND fits LGA1156... so any advice would be really helpful. I've found the following 3 coolers that may do the job: Scythe Shuriken Big Scythe Shuriken Rev B Scythe Zipang 2 I like the look of the Zipang 2 and the Shuriken rev B but I'm not sure which is the better option... the Zipang 2 is listed as running at a constant 22.2Db, whilst the Shuriken is anything between 10-31 Db... both have decent enough reviews. So would either do the job, or is there a better alternative?
:BUMP: just wondered if you settled on your CPU cooler? I wanted to get the Scythe Mini Ninja Rev.B cooler - but have found it impossible to find. So looking for alternative (have stock cpu cooler at moment).
