Hi Forum! I have a question about the Dark Rock Pro, which I have recently bought and I am hoping someone can help. It does not fit over my RAM so I was wondering if it is possible to remove the outer fan on the cooler and just have it running with the fan in the middle between the heatsinks. Of course it will not be as efficient but will it be acceptable and possible? My computer is not overclocked, it is just used for intense music production. Best regards, Jonas Frederik
should work fine... but is hard to give a definite without knowing more detail... a you could consider selling on the dark pro and getting a cooler more suitable for your needs that will protect your cpu even when you push it
You could do that just use something like core temp to keep an eye on your CPU and cores tempartures.Could you not just mount the fan the other way i.e. to the back of your case? Please also list your PC specs i am not sure how your RAM is getting in the way unless it has high heat sinks on the ram as some corsair and other products do.
Probably a stupid question but could you put the ram in other slots i.e. my Titan Fenrir blocks slot 4 but I have my ram in slots 1 & 3 so it's fine (just - I have to take the fan off to access slot 3...)
IMO removal of the outer fan would kill performance, it is harder for the central fan to move air because it is obstructed on both sides by the heat sink, it is aided by the first fan which you intend to remove. If you do it monitor the temperatures carefully, I would stress test under these conditions to make sure before I was happy to leave it unmonitored however I would expect cooling performance to drop significantly even if it does work. More efficient (but more costly) solutions are: as above, if possible change the RAM configuration if you have unoccupied slots, replace the heatsink with one that does not obstruct (my thermalright mux does not, nor does the archon however the archon is very tall!) or replace the RAM with low profile if that will help.
Was thinking about this again today - you must be using ram with big heatsinks based on this picture clicky - afaik modern ram doesn't really need cooling as much so, as above, swap for lp ram?
