Very tempted to start another scratch build.. Better get to the workshop to look for inspiration and materials.
Wouldn't mind some of the prizes listed there, but once the "pro-modders" enter the arena all those prizes are suddenly very far away :/
I think it is a win/win even with the "pro modders." Competition is good to stretch your capabilities and learn. Plus, you never know when you might have an absolutely winning concept. Go for it even if you're not feeling up to the task. It is how we grow.
I tend to agree with what jrs77 is saying, it's what puts me of slightly and the quality of the mods onhere at the moment is beyond belief some times, makes it pretty much impossible to compete with them.
I've got no CNC or a fully fledged toolshop, no professional paintbooth and certainly not hundreds of dollars in spare-parts for such a contest. I do like to see what the people are doing, but I've long stopped taking part in competitions, as there's really no reason to do so aslong as you're not a pro-modder yourself. Also... I hate watercooling, so I can't win anyways.
I don't have a shop or CNC or paintbooth. My budget is less than $200 for these contests. Sure, I have sponsors but I would enter an empty case if I had to rather than watch from the sidelines. There is no requirement other than mod a case. I have never watercooled anything. I placed 3rd last year and won my category the year before that. I'm not a pro but I have beat up my fair share of them along the way. Imagination can compete with deep pockets and the people who vote/judge will reward you for that. This year's contest has a new category called Cooler Mod. You can enter with a modded CPU heatsink like Bill Owens Ferrari HSF. Sounds like more fun than the case contest. I considered doing a Steampunk HSF and will be disappointed if no one does. I think it is a great opportunity to steal some great prizes for little investment. You have four months! Now I have used up all my boasting allotted for the year but I hope it motivates someone to enter. Peace.
Hmm, Scratch Build category-it says that there must be something from Coolermaster used in this mod-but,it doesn't specify what. So,can I enter with just using Coolermaster push-pins?
Just realized there is a cooler master category and I just happen to be ripping lumps out of my old stacker 832
We're media partners with Cooler Master on this so we'll hopefully be doing more coverage of the competition this year!
Cool!.. Go for it. There seems to be a lot of confusion about the categories, especially the "Cooler Mod" category so make sure you have things right. Good luck!
On CM's Facebook page, this project is what they use as an example of a "Cooler Mod" Bill Owen's reV_Ved UP
The way I read it, the Tower Mod category is for Cooler Master cases only. Other manufacturer's cases and scratch-built's go under the Scratch Build category. If you use another maker's case you have to hide the logo. The Scratch Build category requires you use one Cooler Master product .
