I have been looking into purchasing a '550W Corsair CMPSU-550VXUK' from scan on one of their daily deals. But then while looking on ebay for a price comparison I see this piece of information for a Corsair TX 950W. ''This item was bought just over a week ago along with a few other components. Since putting my new Rig together, I have found there is an Incompatibility between this PSU and the Mobo I have, My Motherboard is an Asus P6T SE, From trolling the Corsair Forums, I have found there is a known compatibility issue between the 2 which freezes the computer. This PSU has been tested in another computer with the same spec, but has an Asus Rampage II Extreme Motherboard and worked perfectly. I am unaware of any other PSU + Mobo combinations that fault in this way.'' I also have an Asus P6T SE motherboard, would I have any problems with the Corsair 550W PSU?
Doubtful. I'd be interested to know the reason for the incompatibility between the two, you would've thought it wouldn't matter. Does the TX950 use a single 12V rail? If so that could explain the troubles if the P6T is particularly fussy. Anyway, with all the folks who own these boards and the popularity of Corsair PSU's you would've heard if it were a widespread problem. I wouldn't worry. p.s. Will 550W really be enough for an i7 rig? What else are you going to be running?
I think 550W should be fine, but if you're doubtful bump up a bit and consider a modular PSU (I wish I had!). But I agree with Krikkit, I think that guy's misdiagnosed his problems. You also seem to be looking at a comment about a PSU you're not considering buying and worrying about the PSU that you are buying?
