Building an mATX render/gaming box for a friend. £600 to spend, so far I've ended up with this:

Anyone got any tips? I've left graphics out as I'm going to source a 2nd-hand card for him for now, then if he wants something better next year he can upgrade again. He's not a hardcore render freak, but does quite a lot of video editing etc, so the 16GB RAM and decent CPU are definitely needed.

I just bought a Coolermaster N200 case which is a bit pricer than the Core 1000 but comes with support for up to 5x 120mm fans rather than the 2x 120mm and the 92mm in the Core 1000 and the two fans in the N200 are lovely and quiet but still shift a fair bit of air. I think the internals of the N200 are better than the Core 1000 too, it's much more open and I think cable management would be easier.

I can't find fault with the build quality either, all CM's sub £40 cases I've worked with have been good in that regard.

That does look better actually, I think I'll try it - I used a cheap CM case not too long ago and it was great for the cost, but it was an ATX. I went for the Fractal as a knee-jerk really as it's well rated and sub-£30. :)

Also, does anyone have any thoughts on a reasonably-priced CPU cooler? I'd like something a bit quieter/more efficient than the stock cooler for an mATX build.

If you do go with the N200, it'll take a CPU cooler up to 160mm so something like the CM Hyper 212 Evo or Hyper T4 should fit the bill nicely.

Is there supposed to be a list of parts you have selected as I can't see anything.

There's supposed to be 2 images, both hosted by Imgur and I can see them fine...

For an Asus board over a Gigabyte at that price point, I'd stick 1155. Looks sensible to me!

    I've always preferred Asus, though!
