Hi people! Love Bit-Tech – had it in a firefox tab for many years. I no my first post being a thread is not great but I really need help form people in the know.

I signed up today hopping someone would could help me out with this dilemma I have. Any points of view are very much appreciated.

    My current setup:

    DFI Lanparty Expert 939
    Opteron 148 @ 3.3
    2gig of G.Skill 3200 – 2 3 2 5
    8800gts 640mb
Mach 2 gt – Only have the 939 bracket.
    Enermax 500w Liberty

Recently I have started to notice my system is a tad lagging when doing more than one take at once. Also when playing games my cpu usage rate is static at 100% Im now considering going duel core.

This is my dilemma; do i go for a core 2 or a duel core 939?

I have been offered a fx60, ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe and Zalman 7900 from a work colleague for £220. Im earning over this side as I all ready have the mount kit for the mach2 (for the core2 775 is £75 *shocker) plus I would have a additional 939 board with heat sink that I could couple with my 148 and use as a media centre in the living room.
But ive read the fx60 sometimes suffers from a hefty cold bug, just a chance I have to take.

If I go core 2 I need to replace everything. I would rather do this during the summer with all the additional stuff coming and the prices I assume will be reduced.

I always imagine the FX series will have a good resale value > £60 anyway lol.

    Thanks for reading people!
    Scott

Sounds like just about the right choice to me - for £220 that's a pretty good deal, not awesome, but pretty reasonable, plus you get to play with an FX-60.

If you really want a long-term upgrade, there's no question that you should go C2D.

    On a side-note, what stepping's that 148? Is that mach2'd?

    p.s. Welcome! :thumb:

    Hey, thanks!

Yer the most i could get out of the 148 was 3.3 its a CABYE (i cant remember the exact date etc.. been a while). Ive had it for well over a year now!

The mach2 was a funny story.

I was on ebay about this time last year and someone listed the mach 2gt with the lian-li PC-60 (rrp of £750 recipt included) In the end it was bidded up to £370 amazing deal!

The only down side to them is buying the additional cpu brackets £75 for the 775 is alot!
