Alright so here is my question... i'm looking to build a small case (hopefully using mini-ITX) that i can use as a file server for personal/private use within my house while i do my own work on my real PC. One of my ideas for my case is that I would LOVE to have a small LCD (was thinking maybe 8-12 inches) built into the case so that it can be easily transported without having to bring multiple items. I know i could easily find a used laptop LCD on ebay if i really wanted to but I dont know how easy it would be to set that up with a desktop mobo. I guess what i'm asking is if anyone could help me with a little info on what they think would be my best option. I'm a college student so im not made of money but i am willing to spend a little if its worth it I know SOME about hardware but its been awhile since i've had time to read up on whats new, so i'm a little behind on my vocab (bare with me if you can, haha), so help me out and keep the terms simple thanks in advance and i really appreciate any help people can give me sideburns
I have something like this (sorry, had to find a similar product on USA eBay) which works brilliantly. I have it hooked up to my fileserver actually, though as it's a modified original xbox, I haven't had a chance to set up the touchscreen. If you don't need touchscreen then there are even more options open to you.
This is a good ITX As far as a small screen I would go with this Thermaltake I think if you use the 630i ITX and a q6600 and 2x2GB of ram, it would make it killer and perfect for watching movies and being a server station.
both of those are great thanks for the input =) i'd also like to note a touch screen is not a MUCH but yes that would be nice to have, otherwise what i think i will do is mod a track-ball into the side of the case P.S. that thermaltake is pretty sick! going to see how much they run right now anyone else have any ideas? the more input the better! also http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135074 this is the Mobo i had been looking at. how do people think it compares to the one suggested by AQNFX?
also id like to ask... i just checked out that thermaltake screen and it says it connects via VGA, but i'm lead to assume that their is no other output to connect to a TV or anything. So if i wanted to connect to a TV then i would need to reserve a slot in my mobo for a card that can connect? also i'm not sure i would be able to get that ITX mobo suggested by AQNFX in the USA, i've checked their site and went through the distributors listed and none of them had it online.
Well the ECS board inst a ITX mobo. oh and I see its AMD (now its what cpu you perfer).... The Zotac is intel, and it has a PCI x1 that you could fit a TV tunner or a video card (slim pickings for video cards though). Or whats even better (but it might not come to the USA) is the ASUS D200. I personally am waiting to see if the D200 comes to the US. If it does, I buying me one of those fancy gizmo ma jigsssss do-hickeys. Zotac <- new egg D200 YouTube
haha, yeah that wasnt the right mobo i posted before. This http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813500020 is the one i meant to put up which i just noticed is the one that you showed for newegg, haha. Excellent thats exactly the board i was thinking of. what kind of connecting is D-sub though?
D-sub is your analog resolution. its the little blue female end that you plug your monitor into. max resolution from that is 2048x1536. DVI is digital and it has a resolution at 2560 x 1600. This Itx has both D-sub and DVI. with this board you could make a little power house HTPC!
and yeah those are real sexy however from what i have read they dont ship to US, unless i read an old article in which case im definitely considering that for one of my options
hahaha, yeah i was reading my AVG Anti-virus *finished scan* pop up at the bottom of my screen when i was typing VGA is what i meant to say, and thanks for the info thats kick ass! these screens look so sexy but im not going to lie... i really dont want something thats flashy and suppose to be external, i want something that i can build into my case without any real external parts. I have my case pretty much designed, other than sizes and exact measurements. I would just ideally like everything to be as self contained as possible (i'm a big fan of simplistic and clean looking electronics). anyone have any ideas for anything like that?
